Afterwards...Please Rank

After I have finish reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck (note my signature), which of the following should I read afterwards? Please place then in the order I should read them. Thank you.

• The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson

• The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

I have posted this question on several boards and so far the majority of suggestion have come down to just four (4) novels- in this order:

1. Catch-22 by Josephe Heller
2. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
3. The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson
4. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco

The list of course is incomplete. I only have enough suggestions to complete the first four positions- which can be changed if the replies are many. Please continue to give me some more feedback if you have not done so. Thanks again!

I have only read two of the books on the original list, so am unable to do much ranking. You have already read one book by Ecco so you must have some feeling about him as a writer. The Name of the Rose is excellent (in my memory) with an intriguing plot and wonderful wordplay.

The Good Earth is of historical interest and would be a quick read. It depends on your interest in China in the period between the wars.

You won't regret reading Blindness. It's completely amazing. I heard not great things about Blood Meridian on a CBC Radio show about McCarthy's The Road, so be sure to let us know what you think of it.
