See, as a bookworm (lol) I've always been writing short tales for myself but I never published or even shown it to anyone, because even tough the tales seemed interesting for me, I don't know if anyone would read it just because I was asking them to and lie telling me it was great as it actually wasn't... lol. So I’m ok with my anonymity in writing concerns... :rolleyes: But you went a lot far from me and eventually published your works. That's very brave. Keep it up, girl!

LOL. Both I suppose. I tend to both feel and act like a kid. My inner child insists on hanging around. I think if I didn't take my vitamins I may feel a bit older .....:rolleyes:

Oooh, You're reading Gone with the Wind? Better than the movie, right? And even the movie was great!
 
I'm fairly young (17). I've been reading for fun since I was around 13, and I rest assured I will have more time for reading once I'm out of high school and college after that. Right now, school is kind of making it hard to finish too many books outside of required reading.

Funny, that's what I thought too... Now that I'm out in the "real world" I find it so hard to dedicate time to reading between running my business and my household.

Do you have a TV set at home? Because I do not, so I really read a lot. The only problem is that I became internet-addicted around a year ago, (when I got my very own PC - or more precise, when every member of my family has got his very own PC :) ) so this declined my reading (of literature) drastically.
 
I'm 29 and I'm turning 30 on May 26th (I expect presents ;) :D).

I've always liked to read but it takes a lot for me to finish a book - it has to be good. I've finished a lot more than I've started. I keep wanting to accuse myself of not liking to read (because I leave so much unfinished) but I had no trouble getting through all 7 Harry Potters, I read Night, etc. etc. I can't get through one page of LOTR (but I did watch all 3 films... films are another love of mine). If the book is good, I will finish it. My most read author is Robin Cook - I love medical fiction.

I just got a Sony Reader PRS-505 a week ago so I've fallen in love with books again. About to start The Selfish Gene and see if I finish A Million Little Pieces. I have a lot of time idle at work (call center) so the Reader is awesome. Have my Stephen King On Writing book on there also :D I'm also reading Anne Frank in P-Book (physical book, as opposed to ebook) and want to finish once and for all Nickel and Dimed and also want to read Bait and Switch (have those on hand) and also bought The End Of Potter. That's it on the P-Book form.

What I really like about the reader is that I can fit 19k books in 1 DVD. I don't plan on buying any more P-Books (I trade the same 3-4 through paperbackswap.com). If I want to keep it it will be in ereader format when it comes out.

So the Reader got me reading a lot :D

We have a TV, but to be honest I don't use it much. The internet is a different story however! But I run a restaurant so after working 12 hours or so, my brain's pretty much fried and reading doesn't happen.
 
I'm 15 and i've been reading for leisure for about 3 years, but it is true that young eople dont read enough, all my friends cant understand why i read but they dont care, the only other person i know who reads is my gf :p

Hum… I guess internet never declined my reading… I think internet is a great tool for readers since you can search for new readings every time you finish a book and don’t know what to read next; or also you can download rare books that you don’t find at the bookstores. Actually this is the greatest feature about internet because bookstores usually sell what is new, not exactly what is good. So there are very few really interesting books in the bookstores in this ending 2007… (For example, I see much stuff about Afghan-based dramas since Khaled Hosseini’s “The kite runner” was launched. It’s a great book, I read and liked it, but after its release the bookstores were fulled with this genre and I don’t know if it’s only a coincidence or if the presses realized people will buy it only because the Khaled’s book was good… I don’t know. But as I was saying, ) Before I download an e-book, firstly I go to an used books store. Anyway, the index of such stores can be found in the internet - all the used books stores from my city share the same index website so… well, I see internet as a stimulus for reading rather as discouragement for such habit. Oh, yes, and I can also discuss books in forums like this one ;)

I also don’t use TV. I only watch it when I’m going sleep: I go to bed but if I am not successful in falling asleep in a few minutes, then I turn on the TV and hope to find something interesting. Funny thing is that no matter how many channels you have, there will rarely be something really interesting to watch.

The internet has decreased my interest in reading at all. I spend more time reading about books than actually reading them. Oh the irony!

I agree completely! I'm obsessed with the really old adventure stories (Jules Verne, Jonathon Swift, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, etc...) but they just don't publish them anymore. I just discovered a great website (if anyone wants the link just PM me... i don't want to start sounding like an advert!) that has tons of old books online.

Few days ago, I read the following: "Young adults are the heaviest users of public libraries despite the ease with which they can access a wealth of information over the Internet from the comforts of their homes, according to a new study." Under google news search under "young adults+library use" and you'll see many newspapers covering the study.

No wonder older folks are scarce on this board. :(
