You know you're addicted to reading when...

After seeing a movie based on a book you leave telling anyone that will listen everything that was wrong or left out.

After finishing a book you wish they did a movie of it only to realize that it wont be as good as it is in your head.

when ever someone takes your page marker out and you remembered the page number just for that occasion.

My friends take my page markers all the time so now whenever I put a book down I look at the page number because I'll probably have to find it again.

Guilty of cramming paperbacks into jean's pockets, cargo pant pockets, or when all else fails and it is an emergency, into the waistband itself.

You Know you are Addicted to Reading When:

-The cat lies on top of your book pile so you will notice him.

-You wonder if books make good baby/wedding shower gifts.

-You buy a house with lots of empty wall space for shelves. ( guilty)

-The local thrift/second hand book shops raise the price on books a quarter a month, because they know you are a sucker and can't resist.

-Your Books to Read list maxes at 100.

-Your in the library so long the Librarian forgets about you and starts to lock up. ( it's a teeny library too. So what if I was crouched in the back corner desperately reading from Turgenev...while balancing a growing stack of books on my knee.)

i got my friend a nice fairy tale collection for her baby shower - she loved it.

also, my books to read list is 14 pgs long......and color coded and organized by which library branch has them....

When you search "great books" or "must read books" on YouTube so you can watch people show their books, list some good ones or just talk about them....I'm SSsssUUUuuUUCHH a dork!:p

how about when you're the one in the videos

by the way my sn on youtube is shy1persephone and i do just that.......

You open all of the "little" presents under the tree first because they're more likely to be books. You're disappointed when the ones that look the perfect size turn out to be DVD's.

When you're having a bad day you find your dreariest book and read a bit just to make you feel better because your life isn't nearly as bad as the character's.

Your voicemail message is "Hi, I can't come to the phone right now. Please leave a message and I'll call you back when I finish this chapter."

You have your favorite books stored in a fire-proof box "just in case".

My most recent little hint from the hubby was, "You know, hon, I was checking out your wishlist for ideas for Christmas. You might want to think about expanding your horizons a bit instead of having pages and pages of nothing but books."

Your local library calls you when they don't have a particular book on their shelves because they're pretty sure you'll have it in your vast collection.

You get more emails from booksellers than you do "chain" emails and fear more the "One day only!" blurb in them than the "If you do not send this to 14 people within the next hour your first-born child will be mentally challenged" threats.

When You're reading at a time when you're supposed to be working! (horrified gasp!)
When you're buying waaaaay more than you can possibly finish!
When you're *debating* with yourself which book you wanna read next while browsing through your library.

ds

Guilty on all three counts!!!!

have any of those actually happened to you?

Both the first and second. Though I recently did away with voicemail on my mobile because I never checked it so it was a waste of cash.

The following are stored in my fire-proof safe:
The Iliad & The Odyssey and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. I also have my marriage certificate, passport, birth certificate and wedding photo album as well as my most valuable football, baseball, and basketball cards and a disk containing a list of all of my books and cards for insurance purposes.

The third is an exaggeration. Though if the librarians knew what I had on hand...

You've had many jobs in many different libraries. (College work studies in my case.)

When you can't get any work done at the library because you're reading the books/articles that you're handling.

You know exactly where all the sections in your library begin and end, and get disoriented when they move stuff.

You find books out of place on the book stacks and put them back into the proper place for the next person.

You spend so much time in the book store that you know all the sections and can help the new employees (and customers) find books.

When you read, fall asleep, then wake up and read more. (I used to do this before i started drinking coffee, now I read, sleep, make coffee, then read).

When you read one book so long that when you fall asleep you dream about the book and have to back read a little to separate the dream from the book.

I'm glad I found people that are similar to me. I have done a number of things some of you have listed here. Too many to recount each tale really.

When I was working at the college library I loved shelving the books, and shelf reading (making sure the book stacks are in order) because I got a really high rate of random books. It also helped me completely memorize the library's layout.

Sometime's when I'm at Border's I find books in the wrong section, and it's really quite annoying so I move the books so they can be with their friends. LoL. I don't have OCD, really.

You get extremely irritated when, while shopping your local bookstore, you find a book in the wrong section or alphabetized incorrectly. You huff and put the book in its proper place, but not before glancing around to see if you can find the culprit who committed such a dastardly deed.

Company shows up a little early and, instead of being happy for the extra time to spend with them, you're annoyed because you have to stop mid-chapter.

When your significant other starts every sentence addressed to you with, "Hon, when you finish that chapter..." or, "When you're at a good stopping point..."

Your family has an "intervention" for your "habit".

My Book Obsession

Whenever I get a purse it has to have enough room for a decently sized book. I get guys that make fun of me for having a big purse and when they ask what I keep in it I say, 'Books.' I always bring a book with me whenever I go out in case I go somewhere with an extra minute to get some reading in, or if I am going to a restaurant.

That's my bag size requirement too. I had a great one that had enough room to fit hardcovers, but the strap broke. I won't admit that it broke because of the weight of the books I crammed in there

haha yes! I have a nice durable one right now but it's starting to look like I might need a new one. It'll be tough finding one that'll hold all my books and last a while.

Plus, I have a nice pin on my purse that says 'Reading is sexy' One of my friends gave that to me for my birthday, I think he saw me looking at it once haha
