Guilty pleasures

You know, did I mention that it's your fault that I'm into Preston-Child too? :) You raved about Preston-Child in the other thread, and I've since read Brimstone and have Relic sitting on my shelf. I'm half-afraid of opening it because when I did that with Brimstone, I was hopping mad because it was part 1 of a trilogy of which the second book hadn't come out yet... and I wanted the story to continue.

Btw, welcome back, Oberon!

ds

I'm pretty sure I warned you! BTW, the other two parts are out, though the third part may not be in paperback yet. You can always get it at the library! ;) I haven't picked up Book of the Dead, the last book, but without spoiling anything, it pulls some characters from what otherwise seemed like a standalone book, The Ice Limit.

I too have some guilty pleasure reading times. I like to read too much to limit myself to what I read. I love learning new things just like everyone else, but sometimes I just want to read something where I don't have to think about anything and just enjoy reading just to read. :p

I read but I don't find it to be a bad thing or something I'd consider a 'guilty pleasure.' It's a nice pleasure that I don't hide from anyone haha

Oberon, I too am Preston-Child fan. I was downloading some John Sandford audio-books, (I'm a fan of him too) which I've already got in book form proper, and I got a hold of some audio books of Preston-Child's :
RELIC .
Reliquary.
Cabinet of Curiosities.
Still Life with Crows.
Brimstone - Part One of the Diogenes Trilogy.
Dance of Death - Part Two of the Diogenes Trilogy.
Book of the Dead - Part Three of the Diogenes Trilogy.
The Wheel of Darkness.

Early Saturday morning, oooh about 9 o'clock, went into my local bookshop Bolen Books and got the books proper.! (Bolen Books Online)
You see the narrator drove me mad with excitement, the bugger,! so Ive put the books in among my very, very groaning TBRPile, I also downloaded Blasphemy.!

Thank God there's no known cure for being a bookaholic, if there were, I'd die horribly.!

Well, there is nothing wrong with reading what you like. You read as a hobby, as a form of enjoyment and I would assume a form of escapism. You indulge yourself with your mystery/crime novels. Your friends just enjoy learning about someone else's life. I mean, biographies bore me, personally, but I also enjoy reading classics, such as Dante's Inferno, lots of Shakespeare, Crime and Punishment lately as well...if it's what you enjoy, then I wouldn't even consider worrying about it.

Well said there leahrs2, to each his/her own. There's really nothing like a good read no matter what genre it may be.

Myself I read not just for 'escapism' as such, but because I need to read, without being able to read I'd be dead, and your longer the latter so pack in as much reading while one can.!

I am addicted to mysteries and or crime novels. I love them and read them one after the other. If you are like me, do you ever feel like you should be reading other things. Most of my friends read biographies and other forms of nonfiction. In other words, they read books that you can learn useful information from. I often feel like I should do the same, but once I step into the library it is almost like there is a magnet pulling me towards the mystery section. Oh well, I guess It's good to have a hobby other than television.
Whatever peaks your interest, and keeps your mind going, whatever you like is what you like. Read what you like, don't feel bad for not reading what you don't like.
