Youtube Anime tributes

Wow,

I was just surprized to realize what's going on youtube with those tributes to Anime.
Have a look here
for Naruto (I had no idea what it was but after I saw the video on the Youtube I did some research)

And here there is also a hot discussion on favorite characters...
Can one explain to me what's going on? People on the Youtube are arguing about all those characters - how comes that the animation characters are so contraverserly disputed? They are just ANIMATED characters!

Anime characters are about as widely discussed by their fans as characters within a novel are discussed. I'm sure you have heard the latest debate on the next Harry Potter book.. with everyone speculating about who will die, and who will end up together, etc. It's the same phenomenon.

There are a lot of tributes to anime. Usually, they are called AMVs (Anime Music Videos). A site with a lot of them up for download is animemusicvideos.org. There are quite a few really excellent ones. The site will ask for monetary donations, but they aren't required, if you want to sample some more.

Good point. I look at endless discussions of the same book as being "normal", but I don't think I could ever get that into the discussion of a movie, TV, or comic character. That is because books are my entertainment of choice. Not so for everyone though. Those of us in the US might remember the obsession with the Ross and Rachel relationship on Friends (not sure if folks out of the country got so worked up about it when you all got it in re-runs). I remember my friends being obsessed with it. My dorm floor even had weekly Friends watching parties which would involve pre-episode discussion, episode watching and post-episode run downs. There were similar groups that watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer and ER. I think people love to find a character that they can relate to, whether it be in a book, movie or TV show. When you feel personal ownership of a character, it is easy to have personal feelings about what your character would and should do.

As previously stated, those videos are known as Anime Music Videos, or AMVs. There's a huge online community dedicated to creating and making them, centered mainly around animemusicvideos.org.

As for why the characters are so heavily discussed, fans of anime are just like fans of any other book, movie, or show. The only reason it seems strange by comparison is that with few exceptions, anime is generally outside the mainstream- even in Japan, where it's the most popular.

To start with, I'm a big fan of Naruto and I have checked the links. Let me tell you that the characters in the anime have very iconic significance representing more than just the character.

For example there is a ninja team in the anime in which there are two ninja with different capabilites. One of them is powerful but nature, so you can call him a genious and the other is a drop-out but he is an ultimate hard working individual. They are always competing and the hard-working guys wanna always beat the other, so he's always practicing hard day and night. My friend and I always debate about who's going to win, and this is not reflected only in the anime but in our daily life situation.

Yes...It's quite fun for me to obsess over any well developed fictional character no matter what sort of media they appear in.

I have my obsession characters in each one of them. Even anime.
A good character is a good character. They don't always have to be book characters.

If you mean "Anime Philosophy" when you say "Anime", I've then to say that I'm an Anime researcher also. These arguings are because of there in the cartoons, so many opposite sides and it surely makes people think about them.
