Anyone ever read two books at once?

For the first time in my reading life I am reading two books at once. The Brothers Karamazov & and George Carlin's When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?. The latter being organized in short rantings makes it good reading for those visits to the home "library". I may continue to balance light humour books or essay collections with heavier reads as it seems to be working so far. It's not a problem if one book doesn't get in the way of another.

Edit: 500th post.

Never. Not 2 novels, anyway. I might read a fiction and a non-fiction - for informational purposes, but not for pure enjoyment. If I'm deeply into a book, that's what I want to read. The book is my world - it's my alternate existance - the characters are my friends (and enemies). I would not want to dilute all that with a different set of people and places. If I'm somewhat into a book- but not deeply, I want to finish it as soon as possible so I can start another one. If I can't get into it, then I abandon it. If I want to take a break from what I'm reading, then I read the Sunday Times magazine section or some other periodical. But to read 2 books at once? Nah. It would be like listening to 2 pieces of music at once or watching 2 movies. In such cases, the whole is LESS than the sum of its parts.

i'm just reading two books at once, but i dont' like it. I'm not used to sharing my readings, normally i like to "enter" the word i'm reading about.

In this case, one of the books it's in english, and as it's not my mothertongue i findi it rather difficult to get on with it, so i only read a few pages a day, and at the same time i continue my readings in italian ;)

Reading a few at once is not working out for me. I'm still working on my Dostoevsky, it's taking me forever to get through Amis' Heavy Water and I'm just over halfway through the George Carlin book. Granted I have had less reading time in the last month but if I had taken each of these books on their own I would probably have finished all three in the same span of time. In doing this I've also ignored my magazines. Issues from the last two months have gone unread and the latest one is out.

I find that The Brothers Karamazov, and Dostoevsky in general, is immersive. When I remove myself from his world and go into Martin Amis' it takes me longer to get back in the groove of the Dostoevsky. I read a little slower and need to confirm to myself plot points and characters. I think if I were pounding back a King, a Grisham, and a Brown it would not be a problem but sophisticated reading requires focus.

I used to think that it'd confuse me but it really doesn't. I suppose I stay away from reading two novels at once the same way you don't watch two movies at once - but - I read the way you watch TV shows. I have a habit of either swallowing the entire book in a few days or taking about a year to finish a book because I put it down and forget about it. Also, I have read a few books at once thanks to college courses.

One book at a time for me. Itry to concentrate on it and get its full meaning, if there is any.

I like to match a non-fiction book with a fiction one at the same time. I find that if I'm not in the mood for either one, the other will get some good time. That's what I'm doing now the The Agenda and I Am Charlotte Simmons.

I usually have more than one book going at a time, but I find they have to be of very different genres, or I'll begin to favor one and end up never finishing the other. And of course there are books for my courses.

I used to keep 2 or 3 going at a time but then i realized that I wasn't going through them any faster by reading in parallel.

I like to have one fiction and one non fiction going at a time. Then I go back and forth, depending on mood. Also, I don't like to read anything too emotionally involving during the half hour before bedtime, so the non fiction is usually good then.

Recently I added an MP3 player to my life, so now I have a third book going on the player, restricted to my time on the treadmill.

I used to do this often. Sometimes I'd read as many as four books at once (I had no social life; what can I tell you). Lately I've only been reading one book at a time. I just haven't had the inclination to read any others. The exception to this is school; I'm an English major so I usually HAVE to read several books all at once.

I often have partly finished books sitting in different rooms in the house. It saves having to carry a book around with me.:D

I usually read at least a couple of books at the same time. I have to been in a certain mood for certain books, so I have to move around a lot.

usually i read two books at the same time, plus one i carry in my car.....
at some point i have read up to 5 books at a time
