How many books have you read?

When I was 13, I will have read (at least) 3-5 books a week too.

I was only allowed out until 7.30pm or something, then, and I never slept. I had to go to bed at 9pm, but I read at least a book a night then. And more at weekends. And I was always grounded for something.

I remember going to the village library. We were allowed 4 books at a time, and the library was only open twice a week. I used my sister's tickets too, so that's 16 a week. And I topped those up with classics (my parents had strange ideas about having to read quality stuff).

Before my family moved, when I was 10, I shared a room with my sister. I used to read in bed with a torch, so I wouldn't disturb her with the light.

So, 20 books a week, from 10 to 15 = 5,000. Another 5 a week from 5 to 10 = 1,250. From age 15 to 19, I think I read 8 books in total. And 6 of those were for English Lit A level. Since then I've read around 70 books a year (500).

Total: 6,750, or 500 as an adult.

My hat is off, and held way high in the air, for all these stories and memories of wonderful early reading. Wow! :flowers:

(I know, I know! Who wears hats anymore? )

I'd say approximately 550. My Listal list of read books isn't quite complete at the moment as I still have to add quite a few manually and then theres the ones I can't remember the titles of. I only properly started keeping track 3 years ago.

(Also, it's been a long time since my last post here...)

I always loved reading but became an avid reader the past 3 years. I have read about 300 up until my 40 years.

When I was in early high school, I read loads of books, probably around 3-5 per week. But the books I read were teenage fiction, or young adult, and quite easy to get through. These days, I'm lucky if I can get through one book a fortnight. :banghead6mx:

I have no idea (I didn't start keeping track until recently) but it's at least 300. But the number of books isn't as important as the quality or the experience of the reading. Some people consider "reading" merely scanning the pages of a book. You ask them about it 10 minutes later and they can only give a very vague outline of a book's content. Or they say "I liked it" or "I hated it" with nothing else. I know a lot of readers like that. Needless to say, it's a lot easier to read 10,000 books with that level of comprehension.

I have read hundreds of books - maybe.

I have never kept a record of what I read, but just for fun I am attempting to list all of the books I have read in my life, including children's, YA, graphic novels, short story collections, poetry books, plays and non-fiction.

I may list it in a spreadsheet like Canker, but there will be only columns for Author and Title (and maybe ratings).

Who wears hats anymore?
I do  and I'm not talking baseball caps or propeller beanies.

I started keeping up at the first of this year of how many books I read. So far I have read 35. I have always loved to read since I was a teenager, and I am now 45, so it would be very hard to try and guess how many in my life.

By guessing, if you don't know exactly, how many books do you think you've read?
I really have no idea. Thousands, I would guess.
That doesn't take into account how many books I have re-read.
I often find the second or third reading of a book to be more enjoyable. I usually can relax with it and get more out of it.

Having no idea as to the quantity of books i read,i shall focus on the true good ones.
I would say that less than 100 books stired something in me.Being awakness to new ideas or feelings, sadness, shame, warmth, laughter, admiration, trepidation.Books that left a trace of them in me,more than just reading words.

100's of books...Dozens of gems...Especially love Hesse..and a host of Russian authors...oh and Asimov and Tolkein :)

One woman on Facebook has read 10,024 (something like that)

Me? I think I've read around 24. I'm 15 and I'm aiming for 100 books.

Well, I'm 6 years older than you and I've read 48.

Moral of the story? It does not matter how many books you read, all that matters is which books you read.

There is a lot of bad/low stuff.

You're aiming for 100 books.

I only aim for a number when I'm dealing with money, health, time, etc. But not when I'm thinking about the quantity of books I will read. It sounds so useless to intent to read a quantity of books. It's not like gasoline. You don't go to the bookstore and say "I want 30 books. Thank you".

"But which books, Sr?"; "Oh, 30 books are 30 books. What you mean with 'which books'?". Things are not this way.

I can't say what books are the best for you to read because I don't know what kind of stories you like. But you do know it. So go for those books you think you will like. If you read a book and don't like it, it's ok. That happens. But you can search the internet for books you may like. It's not gas.

The only thing that matters is what you get out of a book and not what you read or others think is approbiate. I can read the highest literature without getting anything from it. Then I can pick up a small thriller that makes my heart racing and leaving the lights on in the night.

The only thing that matters is that you read what you desire. Even if it is a romance novel, a horror book or whatever.

I've read hundreds of books, some good and some really bad. The good thing is, you always remember the good ones and you always take something from them.
If it is something someone in the book said or a thought you had while reading. It stays with you for a looooooooooong while.

The last book that really got to me was Cody McFadyen's Shadow Man. I still haven't picked up the next book by him because while reading the first one I already thought I'm going to have a stroke. LOL
