I'm sure this topic has been posted like a million times, but what are some great fantasy books with wizards and warriors and dragons and that sort of stuff, Lord of the Rings books but not LOTR. any suggestions and any descriptions will help. also if someone can tell me the order of the dragonlance series by wies and hickman from the beginning to the end in chronological time order for the times that take place in the books and not when they were written in real life.
thanks

I can't really help you with the Weis and Hickman books, I'm afraid. I only read a few of them.

In terms of wizards and stuff, you might like to try any of the following authors:

David Eddings (Belgariad series)
Terry Goodkind (The Sword of Truth series)
Terry Brooks (Shannara series - start with the Sword of Shannara)
Katharine Kerr (Deverry series, not Polar City)
Trudi Canavan (The Magician's Guild and the Novice - her third isn't out yet)

And that's just for starters!

Harpers series. Thread linked in this forum. Only 3 posts so far, 2 by me LOL. Will read the next one in a week or so when I finish saga of the seven suns, book 1.

or another thread which is about Drzzt the Dark elf, not so much wizards more fighters with a bit of magic thrown in but very enjoyable

Ohhhh dear, there are so many.

The Harpers series Carlos is referring to as well as the Drizzt series are Forgotten Realms books.

I don't know how much you know about this Fantasy Realm. It is a world created for use in the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing games.

Of series worthy of our attention is:

The Avatar series.
Shadowdale
Tantras
Waterdeep
Prince of Lies
Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad

They're most definitely good.

Sembia series
The city of Selgaunt teems with all walks of life -- merchants and assassins, mages and thieves, priests and heretics. The fate of the noble Uskevren clan is bound up in the intrigues and shadowy dealings of the city as, one-by-one, the family members discover their own destinies.
The Halls of Stormweather
Shadow's Witness
The Shattered Mask

The Netheril Trilogy
In the far distant past, great cities floated above Faerûn while master mages spun their spells and mighty sorcerers challenged the gods themselves for dominance.
Sword Play
Dangerous Games
Mortal Consequences

The Cormyr Saga
A sweeping historical trilogy about the land of Cormyr and its generations of mighty wizards and noble kings.
Cormyr: A Novel
Beyond the High Road
Death of the Dragon

Now this list is by no means complete. I believe more books have been published in the Cormyr saga since this was written. (I merely copy/pasted from another website - I know, I'm a cheat)

A complete list of the books published for Forgotten Realms (FR) can be found here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/bibliography
But take note that this list also includes rulebooks, sourcebooks, and accessories for us D&D gamers.

Here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/list&brand=All&year=All&type=Novels
is a list with the novels that WotC have published. It contains FR novels as well as Dragonlance, Magic: The Gathering, and Greyhawk.

Should you wish to know more about this world feel free to ask - even drop me a line - being a regular gamer I'm sure I can find answers for quite a few questions, and if I can't, I probably know someone who can. :)

oldies but goodies:
Theives World collaborative effort headed by Robert Aspirin

The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock

any of the Conan series by Robert Howard

the Iron Tower Duology by Dennis L McKiernan

The Black Company series by Glenn Cook

and so on

Raymond E Fiest is a great fantasy author. You could begin with Magician. It's the first book of the Riftwar Saga.

Feist is an excellent author, you can't go wrong with Terry Brooks. Start with the Sword Of Shannara. Anything from the Forgotten Realms is good too.

look up "the black culdren" (sp)

it was made into a children's movie, but the book is actually part of a fantasy series with about 5 books. i was never into that kind of fantasy, though, so i just read them and moved on

I believe the correct order for the Dragonlance series of books is the Heroes series, then the Legends series, then Soul Forge, then Second Generations, then Dragons of the Summer Flame, then the War of Souls series, then Amber and Blood trilogy, and finally they have a second "Heroes" series in the works... I think it's called the Lost Heroes or something, I forget.

I'm sure you can find the information easily on Google. Anyways. Great books. Maybe not quite so detailed as say Robert Jordan or Goodkind, or even Eddings, but great books.

I would also recommend George RR Martin, Raymond E. Feist, and Terry Brooks. Also look into Tad Williams and Greg Keyes (I really recommend these).

Lloyd Alexander wrote "The Black Cauldron " .The series is called
Chronicles of Prydain.......

1. The Book of Three (1964)
2. The Black Cauldron (1965)
3. The Castle of Llyr (1966)
4. Taran Wanderer (1967)
5. The High King (1968)

Hope this helps

On second thought. Everywhere you see the word "Heroes" in the above post, put "Chronicles".

Everworld series
Lost years of Merlin series
Warrior of Alavna series
Eragon series
The Seventh Tower series
The Bartimaeus series
The Warrior Heir series

Earthsea series by Ursula Le Guin (can't believe no one mentioned it). I'm sure I'm forgetting some others, but I can always come back when I remember.

ho ho hum...lets see...I would recommend Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini. Some people say his books stink, but decide for yourself. Don't read the reviews and borrow it from the library. I love them, and am buying Brisinger when it comes out Sept. 30! :) Some others would be Donita K. Paul's Dragonkeeper series, in this order: Dragonspell, Dragonquest, Dragonknight, Dragonfire, and Dragonlight. Also 'Dealing With Dragons'. Can't remember who wrote it, but I know I loved the series. Umm...there are so many more...you could try Garth Nix, he has a few different series. I have only read 'The Keys to the Kingdom' series but it was good. That's all I can think of for now!

After I re-read them, I didn't care much about all the stuff about Eragon's brother, and it's stupid that he still hasn't finished this series. The movie sucked as well. Why is LotR and Harry Potter the only fantasy books that anyone is willing to put any real effort into making into a GOOD movie?

Those Donita K. Paul books are VERY hard to find around here. Even the libraries don't carry many copies.

I borrowed the 1st one from the library, I own the third one from half price books. I haven't seen hide nor hair of the other 2.

The trilogy I'm currently reading, while not wizards, dragons and faeries, is somewhat fantasy... and very addictive, I might add.
The trilogy includes Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen by Garth Nix
