God bless him.

Sam Harris on Sarah Palin and Elitism | Newsweek Politics: Campaign 2008 | Newsweek.com

What doesn't she know about financial markets, Islam, the history of the Middle East, the cold war, modern weapons systems, medical research, environmental science or emerging technology? Her relative ignorance is guaranteed on these fronts and most others, not because she was put on the spot, or got nervous, or just happened to miss the newspaper on any given morning. Sarah Palin's ignorance is guaranteed because of how she has spent the past 44 years on earth.

A great article if there ever was one. He really dissects her appeal and how really, there is nothing behind it of substance.

Her lack of knowledge all around is what's unnerving to me. Even Bono from U2 has to meet with her to give her lessons on foreign affairs!

I read an article on Yahoo news this morning that was talking about how much money Palin gets paid when she doesn't even show up in the capital most of the time, but stays at home. Very interesting.

Good for him. It's about time we heard some serious commentary on what a dangerous choice she is. I hope one of the debates or interviews she gives between now and the election gets her to be honest about her religious fundamentalism. Not that I really expect it to happen, especially after her Abraham Lincoln fudge, but a person can always hope.

Palin did an interview with Katie Couric and it was just awful. When Couric is the one who brings gravitas to the conversation, you have a lot to worry about.:whistling:

It's hard to make sense of her nonsense about the bailout and why it's needed. Her rambling about Russia is equally disconcerting. Seriously, watch it, and you won't believe what you're hearing.

I saw an article in the Times saying that McCain's advisors were urging Palin to arrange this wedding for Bristol and her boyfriend sometime in the next few weeks so it takes place before the election. It's supposed to create goodwill for the Republican ticket or something. Some of the quotes by McCain advisors are unbelievable in their cynicism, or at least they would be if we didn't know that Karl Rove was part of the McCain team.

It really annoys me that they've declared Bristol off-limits as far as the campaign is concerned but then they themselves are apparently planning to use her for their own advantage. If she's off-limits, then she should be off-limits to Karl Rove as well as Barack Obama. I hope Sarah Palin puts her foot down here, if all this stuff is true, but we'll see.

I watched that interview with utter terror. Those aren't some surprise obscure questions like "Can you name the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan?" No, these are very pertinent and very important questions. The fact that she could not answer them is very disturbing.

While I haven't always agreed with McCain's politics I still respected him. But given that he would choose someone like Palin to be his running mate now makes me question his judgment. It is as if they completely bypassed the vetting process.

The thought of a Vice-President Palin does not scare me because I highly doubt McCain would pay her any heed if elected. But the thought of a President Palin is a disconcerting one to say the least. And keep this in mind: at McCain's age, the actuary tables state there is a 1 in 3 chance he will die in the next 8 years.

She was heard to say that she was a young-Earth creationist, but I expect her to duck it or deny it in the VP debate if it comes up. In the Bill Maher show last year Joe Biden called creationism malarkey, and one of the other panellists said that that might come back to haunt him if he went much further in the presidential campaign. I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case.

The closest they got to that in the debate was when the question about what causes global warming was asked. She danced on the question and said it was both cyclical and man made. Biden emphatically answerd man made and demonstrated that he knows the science.

Apparently Gwen Ifill had been told ahead of time to stay away from certain subjects. It looks as though religion might have been one of them. We went to see Religulous today, and the notion of having a biblical-literalist end-times-believing fundamentalist in the White House (or, actually, maybe I should say "another biblical-literalist end-times-believing fundamentalist") is quite worrying.
