Young Adult Fiction Suggestions

Definately go for The Dark is Rising series..Also, consider The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Zlata's Diary by Zlata Filipovic, the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix, the The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix(one dd prefers this one to the Keys series)...I know there's more; when the kids wake up I'll ask for suggestions. Same dd mentioned above once made a four page (front and back) reading list for her best friend..she's bound to have some good ideas.

I'll second the Abhorsen Trilogy and The Book Thief.

Also Dust by Arthur Slade -- it's a bit dark but no darker than the Potter books.

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint by Brady Udall -- for mid-teen and older

Holes by Louis Sachar

The Magic and Madness trilogy by Justine Labalastier (sp?)

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud

Most of Ray Bradbury's work would fine for younger readers.

Funny how so much YA is fantasy.
