Well, hello there fellow readers,

I'm an avid reader from the frigid state of Alaska. Since we have about 6 hours of daylight during the winter months, nothing (or few things) are more fun than a good book to pass the long winters.

Up until now I've primarily subsisted on Sci-Fi and Fantasy, though in 2008 I first encountered Tom Clancy and have read several of his novels. In addition to that, I picked up a detective series written by Randy Alcorn. Mr. Alcorn is a Christian writer who does pretty well considering that he really doesn't specialize in this type of novel.

I really enjoyed the 'modern' detective novel and would like to get into more of the same, but I really don't know where to start.

I'm not sure that I'm looking for the CSI type novel and I'm not sure I'm looking for the older Sherlock Holmes books. Does anybody have suggestions for modern detective novels that I can really get in to?

I did pick up Sue Grafton's A is for Alibi today but I'm not even sure if that is what I'm looking for.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am more into the CSI type:

I enjoy Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series (have you seen The Bone Collector?)

Others I enjoy:

Tess Gerritsen (Jane Rizzoli series)

the older Patricia Cornwell books (Kay Scarpetta series)

Kathy Reichs (Temperance Brennan series)

Stuart Woods (Stone Barrington series)

Dennis Lehane

Harlan Coben

HI
LIKE SO MUCH ELSE, FINDING YOUR 'MYSTERY READ NICHE' IS SUCH A SUBJECTIVE AND PERSONAL MATTER. I'VE BEEN READING MYSTERIES FOR MORE THAN 50yrs [YIKES!!!] AND HAVE FOUND THE BEST WAY TO FIND WHO OR WHAT I WANT TO READ IS TO EXPERIMENT, SEARCH AND ASK (AS YOU HAVE) FOR RECOMMENDATIONS.

WITH THIS IN MIND I SUGGEST:
AGATHA CHRISTIE (ASSORTED)
DOROTHY L. SAYERS
DASHIELL HAMMETT
RAYMOND CHANDLER
P. D. JAMES
RUTH RENDELL
JOHN GRISHAM
DAVID BALDACCI
WILLIAM BERNHARDT
GILES BLUNT
MINETTE WALTERS
DENISE MYERS
DONNA LEON

TO NAME BUT A FEW
THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER AND YET REPRESENT A HEALTHY ASSORTMENT OF MYSTERY/SUSPENSE//THRILLER READS.

NOTE:
I AM NOT SHOUTING ... AT THE MOMENT I CANNOT CHANGE FROM CAPS TO LOWER CASE.

My wife's novels are not so much detective mysteries as mystery novels featuring the odd cop. On a personal note, her late father was a retired police chief, her brother's a cop and her sister's a certified protection specialist with a private security firm. My wife's books are:
Northwoods Forest Mystery
Death Across the Pond
The 'Ghost' in Bolton Hall

Each is by Karin Ficke Cook
There's a description of each on our web site at thecookcompanies.com

The books are available through Barnes & Noble and Amazon and the usual book stores.
