Do you read on public transport?

Apart from lengthy coach or train journeys I've never read on the bus or train, tho' plenty of people do on the way to college/work. I think I'd be too distracted, but 'til I try it...! There're also a couple of coffee lounges locally where I'm told people do sit and read and that's quite appealing.

Sometimes it feels like I only read on public transport... For me it's not only a way to pass the time (and get some reading in) but also a way of shutting out the crowds of stressed-out people on their way to or from work. I like reality, but I like to choose my reality. :p

We don't really have "public transport" here in Texas, but if I'm not driving then I will read in the car. I've also read on airplanes, because I just cannot sit still and do nothing for that long of a period.

I used to take public transit before I got my car, but I very rarely read on the bus. For one thing, people in my city are very weird so I like to keep focused on them. Also I'm still not used to the city's layout, so I liked to pay attention to my surroundings to make sure I didn't get lost!

I always read on the bus. I have to make two two-hour bus trips to get to Uni and back, and it's a great way to pass the time. It's about the only reading time I manage to fit in when I'm at Uni.

I can read on an airplane, but otherwise I get really nauseous. I easily get motion sickness. So I can't read on the bus to school or in the car. I just listen to music.

However, when I'm in study mode for an upcoming exam. I record myself reading notes onto a tape recorder and listen to that on the bus.

Just wanted y'all to know that I completely outdid myself this morning...I was stuck at a red light for what seemed like hours (in reality it was probably 10 minutes), so I read. At a stoplight. The guy next to me couldn't believe it. He kept staring. I wanted to holler at him, "Hey buddy! At least I'm using my time wisely instead of staring at girls in passing cars!"

*lol*

I use public transport to go back and forth to work so I take my book with me and take advantage of the 50 minutes.

I cant really read for short spurts, 5 minutes at a time. I prefer to read for an hour or so at a time, or a good book, 7 hours :)

A funny thing just happened. I was on the metro, reading Bolaño's 2666 which has 666 in large red numbers on the front (the 2 is on the spine). Then suddenly someone comes up to me and starts telling me at great length - based on nothing but the book cover - that I need to stop reading wicked books and get right with God, because Lord Jesus is coming and soon it will be too late to repent. When I get off the train he follows me for a while, calling me his brother and imploring me to listen to Jesus.

At least he was nice about it. Having random strangers tell you they love you is always a good thing, I suppose. :D

I do read on public transport.

Sometimes on my Kindle, and a few times with DTB's (Dead Tree Books)

Maybe, but it is something I can do without.

When commuting I am usually reading, unless I happen to be traveling with a friend or family member, in which case I am probably carrying on a conversation. If I am commuting in a car, however, it depends on how curvy the road is. I do on occasion get motion sickness when reading in a car.

Yeh I do - I actually find its the best time for me to read! I blank all the distractions out and enjoy the journey as opposed to hating it! I also resist and maintain a reading space when the tube is packed! Mwahahahaa....

I have tried it before...its quite boring on bus and train if by myself so I do carry a book around. But I can't read it for more than 30min...get my really dizzy

Yes. I read as I walk too. That's why I have so many bumps and bruises- I am always hitting things as I go. Oh If I only had two sets of eyes it will paradise for me.

I'll be on a plane tomorrow and I'm planning on taking one of Eco's books on dead tree. I don't feel like getting sand in my Kindle
