The Tudors

I've watched it a while ago. I don't think Jonathan Rhys Meyers makes a good Henry VIII, I mean he's a good actor and all that but Henry was ugly, fat, bloated, and not to mention a redhead.

I've seen the first season (my mom owns the first and second seasons on DVD & she likes it - she watched the second season in about 48 hours; I've yet to borrow the second).
I personally don't care for it and I was surprised that I didn't like it too. I love watching those silly little documentaries on the History channel on Henry VIII, and I kind of liked The Other Boleyn Girl (directing/acting wasn't great)... but this wasn't awesome. Surprisingly, my boyfriend liked it a lot. I had to force myself to finish the season. I don't know. Maybe I'll give the second season a shot. Is it any better?

Also, I don't care Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Natalie Dormer. They really turn me off.

Sex scenes are hot though. :p

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is so good he can act ugly, fat, bloated and rufus. ;)

I tried to watch a couple of the Hallmark offerings with Helena Bonham Carter as Anne Boleyn and returned them back to Netflix practically unwatched.

These actors ought to be ashamed (and very probably are) of the version they put out:

Hallmark version ~ Director: Pete Travis Cast: Ray Winstone - Helena Bonham Carter - Joss Ackland - David Suchet - Sid Mitchell - Charles Dance

Or maybe I just I'd previously been spolied beyond redemption by what I've seen of The Tudors.

I think this series is gloriously done and that Natalie Dormer makes a perfect Anne. It also looks to me as if they did some serious research.

I enjoyed the first season for what it was: campy, overblown historical melodrama. Then the second season came along and after trying to get through Episode 1 I stopped, quit the show and haven't regretted it since :D.

@StillILearn: if they had done 'serious research' there wouldn't be as many historical inaccuracies in it.
And it's not just Henry's looks which are wrong, his age is too, as is Catherine's, Wolsey did not kill himself, a gun that was fired in some episode in celebration of something or other wasn't invented until a hundred years later, and the list goes on.

I am so glad everyone is enjoying it as much as me..

It must be Jonathan's fault.

I think he died from being very ill.
..to the a gun that was fired in some episode in celebration of something or other wasn't invented until a hundred years later, and the list goes on.
It was for the birth of his illigitimate son,but not only the flintlock, muskets etc, were not exact, also the swords and bow and arrows, but for entertainment purposes they made everything bigger ,shinnier etc.

I don't really care all that much about historical accuracy when it comes to these shows and movies. Historical fiction is so much more fun! ;)

I don't get the whole changing the facts thing for this particular series, I think Henry had enough antics to make one with lots of controversies and whatnot else.

And yes Wolsey did die of being ill.

I had to do research on Henry VIII and Elizabeth I last year for some writing project.

You know what I love about this whole story? That Henry did so much to have a son,but Elizabeth was her fathers daughter.

Well I think he did have several illegitimate sons, not just Henry Fitzroy. Funny how 'fitzroy' means son of the king.

When Henry was young, he wasn't that bad looking, and wasn't that fat yet, big, yes, but hadn't run to fat. But I fully agree, he had reddish hair, was a big man, not slim and dark haired. I can't get past the looks of this actor.
No actor is that good.
