Who's your favorite FEMALE fantasy/sf writer?

i didnt realize robin hobb was a female... just assumed it was a guy... but i guess sierra phillpin is a guy too... heh

i can only think of one female fantasy writer (seeing as men are prone to write fantasy sci fi) and that is marian zimmer bradley... shes okay but she needs to work her way into the jargon... the first chapter of avalon was jam packed.. but the story was decent

Sheri S. Tepper

After my own heart... Sheri S. Tepper was actually my first exposure to a female fantasy author and I fell in love with her books. Unfortunately, I've read them all and have had to move on to other authors, hehe. I honestly don't have a favorite at the moment though - there are so many wonderful female fantasy authors in the world. Catherynne Valente is one of my favorites at the moment.

Lois McMaster Bujold, hands down right now. Although I own everything Tepper has written. CJ Cherryh is pretty fab as well.

Kim Harrison - The Hollows series
Kat Richardson - The Greywalker series
Charlaine Harris - The Southern Vampire series

C. J. Cherryh for the breadth and consistency of her universe, and for her careful development of alien cultures.

Rob Thurman, who I totally didn't know was a girl until after I'd read her series about Cal (Nightlife, Moonshine, Madhouse and Deathwish), and I was so excited when I found out.

Rob Thurman created what I believe to be the best/coolest troll in all of Fantasy history. Imo. :)

Also, I'm new here. Hi!

I find Ayn Rand's books to be quite interesting. She posits a world where implausible and discredited hard libertarian economics actually works. Her exploration of this world seems quite ham-fisted and banal, but the idea itself is outrageous enough to be intriguing.
