Books you purchased for gift giving.

I thought this might be fun and may help someone who is frantically trying to get ideas for last minute gifts.:whistling:

I purchased "An Irish Country Village" and "An Irish Country Christmas" written by Patrick Taylor to give to MIL who is 80. This are what I would call a cozy books. Very sweet and charming. I am putting them together with a box of imported english cookies and some Earl Grey tea and I'm going to deliver them with some fresh scones from the bakery nearby. No too bad if I do say so myself.

Anyone else giving books as gifts and if so, how are they being presented?

I gave books as gifts but seeing as how a few of them frequent this place, I will not name titles.

My kids know to give us specific titles on their wish list..although this year, Ben requested 'some book about reading music'. For my soon-to-be son inlaw, we got a Borders Gift Card since we knew he'd love it and my daughter didn't give us a real list this year. One daughter requested Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and The New Betty Crocker Cookbook. Cookbooks are always a fun choice, particularly if I can pair it with related kitchen items...such as the pizza stone and Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, which I gave my eldest daughter last year. I'd have given her pizza peel too, but couldn't find ANY in Wichita when I wanted one. This year, I found one in the clearance aisle at a local grocery store. Would it be too wierd to include it with her crockpot this year???

Oh...almost forgot....for new parents, I like to buy a book called Honey For a Child's Heart by Gladys Hunt. I like to pair it with a classic children's book and perhaps a small stuffed animal. For women, Hunt has Honey for a Woman's Heart. One year, for a secret sister revealing party, I got that book and a mug with bees and a hive, some tea, and a bag of Bit O'Honeys. She was well pleased.

For my boyfriend:
2 Michael Crichton:
Next (which was like $5 new at BN) & Pirate Latitudes.

For his mother:
Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger which was 50% off (She liked Time Traveler's Wife).

I got books for both parental units. My mom's getting I, Alex Cross by James Patterson while my dad will be receiving The Last Symbol by none other than BAR's beloved Dan Brown ;).

This year's Christmas gifts of books:

Fantastic Mr. Fox for my best friend's 6-year old daughter.

A Paddington Bear book for my 5-year old niece.

10,000 Years of Art for my 19-year old niece. (She's starting an Art History degree next year.)
