Only read..... i really want to see it but I HATE going to movies errrr.....i might have to break down and go to this one..ill have to take a shot or two before to get me to go.
So you are saying it is true to the book?

Haven't read it, but I've heard that it's a pretty decent adaptation. You know how that goes though.

thought the acting was a little hokey =( but it was a pretty good film. i heard it's hardly playing anywhere which sucks for people that really love the book

I'm on the fence about seeing this film, I don't know, having read the book, whether I'd just be disappointed or not. From what I've read, there are some changes/additions, for example more inclusion of the wife in the film. I'm not saying that would make it better or worse, just different.
So, as I say, I'm on the fence.
BTW, IMO, the ending was a hopeful one, and balanced some of the bleakness of the body of the story.
AIE: SFG, I loved the book also.

I haven't read the book but the movie was good ... I'm sure it is worth watching if you are fan of the book of a fan of this type of movie.
I'm not easily disturbed but that movie haunted me for a while, I don't think the ending (of the movie) made up for that.

I saw the movie a few weeks ago and it was disturbing enough that I've been trying to forget it but here goes.
Man and Boy enter the house,... to me it already felt wrong somehow, because the house had a feeling about it like it was being lived in. It wasn't like the other houses they entered that felt abandoned.
I don't remember too much about what happened next except that they entered the kitchen area (?) and broke open a lock on some doors leading into the basement. I'm not sure what they are called since they are not common in my area but the doors were on the floor and reminded me of the kind you'd find to a shed or shelter area out in tornado country.
When they walked down the steps, that's where things became really frightening. It was a quick scene and hard to take in the horror of it all but you saw a bunch of people begging and screaming to be released. One was clearly missing a foot or part of his leg and I think some of the others showed signs of being butchered for lunch.
The father quickly yelled to his son to get back up stairs. The emancipated deli contestants tried to follow but the father quickly put the lock (almost) all the way back on.
At that time the cannibals came back. Man and boy hid upstairs... by the time the cannibals realized something was wrong, the meat broke free and ran for the hills. While the cannibals were occupied, Man and Boy slipped out a window and hid nearby in the hills till dusk to escape.

I'm frustrated that none of the theaters in my area have showed this movie. So it looks like I'll have to wait for the DVD release.
I caught an episode of Hollywood & Dine where Viggo was discussing this movie. He said it was the most faithful adaptation of a film he had worked on. So I am hopeful.

Saw this last nite and thought they did a good job in the adaptation of it. Just like when I finished the book, I was ready to open a vein and end it all. Very depressing and I even knew what was going to happen.

This is what really keeps me from watching this film. I felt the helplessness of the father when I read this one several years ago. Now I have a son, and it would be very difficult to watch this film. I have been in a really "feel good" mood since the little guy was born, I tend to stay away from depressing books and films now
Great book and I may watch this one someday soon....just will have to find the right time/mood for it.
