Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Following the success of his bestselling Pride and Prejudice and Zombies with another mélange of history and horror, Grahame-Smith inserts a grandiose and gratuitous struggle with vampires into Abraham Lincoln's life. Lincoln learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator. This provokes his bloody but curiously undocumented lifelong vendetta against vampires and their slave-owning allies. The author's decision to reduce slavery to a mere contrivance of the vampires is unfortunate bordering on repellent, but at least it does distract the reader from the central question of why the president never saw fit to inform the public of the supernatural menace. Grahame-Smith stitches hand-to-hand vampire combat into Lincoln's documented life with competent prose that never quite manages to convince.

One word: awesome.

The book images are just great.

I just ordered mine.

I liked this blog post:
There Really Is Nothing New Under the Sun | Munsey's Technosnarl

All right, that dude who wrote the book about Abe Lincoln killing vampires?

His first book was about Jane Austen and zombies.

Jane Austen’s first published book, Northanger Abbey was a spoof of Ann Radcliffe’s The Mysteries of Udolpho.

Century after Radcliffe, decades before Stoker, Paul Feval, noted French author in the Dumas tradition, does a book called “Vampire City” with its plot being Ann Radcliffe, Vampire Hunter.

Noted SF author Brian Stableford translated the work several years ago, I think first for Ash-Tree Press, or maybe Daedalus, now having found himself a nice home with Hollywood Comics.

Given his obvious familiarity with all things Jane, I kind of think there’s more to the story about where Mr Seth Grahame Smith got his idea for the Lincoln: Vampire Hunter book. But, hey, anyone who gets paid in this business is cool with me, and I just bought my copy.

I seen it in stores and put a request on it through ILL. But there's going to be a bit of a wait for it to come in.

And it came in earlier than expected. I'm still only a few chapters into it, but I am enjoying this novel. If this liking of it remains consistent, I think I'll have to purchase a copy for my collection!

I am interested to read this book, it sounds so relevant to the story of "Interview with the vampire" it is also set on the slavery era of America.

Lol, this is probably the funniest thing I have seen all day. Easily made my night

Thanks for sharing, definitely want to read :D

I've been trying to get this book from the Library but no success. I'm looking forward to it. I've read that Steven Speilberg will be directing this movie which is even better news.

I finished this on the plane today.

Based on the secret diaries of Abraham Lincoln, we learn that Civil war was fought to keep vampires from taking over the United States and enslaving everyone.

A quick, fun read. I give it :star4: for originality and fun.

Sadly no. But I would like to. However, I think I am going to wait until I manage to make some more room on my shelves. Can't wait to see the movie though!
