Recently Finished

Just finished: The plot against America by Philip Roth. A well written novel from the
" what if " genre. Franklin Delano Roosevelt is defeated by Charles A. Lindbergh for
President just before World War 2, and Politics change dramatically in the good old
USA!

Hi Ricko - thanks for the information. The only one of Roth's books I have read was Portnoy's Complaint and didn't care for it. Maybe I should have a look at some of the more recent ones. Some folks on another forum were really surprised that he won the Booker prize.

To Momac:philip Roth won the Booker Prize this year, but this book was written in 2004.
Four of his books became movies; including Portnoy's Complaint and Goodbye,Columbus.

Phillip Roth won "The Man Booker International Prize".

From The Man Booker Website:

"The Man Booker International Prize" recognises one writer for his or her achievement in fiction (not for a particular novel).

Worth £6O,OOO, the prize is awarded every two years to a living author who has published fiction either originally in English or whose work is generally available in translation in the English language.

"The Man Booker Prize" aims to reward the best novel of the year written by a citizen of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland.

I thought Agincourt was a excellent novel. Fantasy Moon, if you like historical fiction, read
Cornwell's Stonehenge- It's hard to write a novel about a time period were there isn't any
written history left behind. He writes a very believable story.

Have just finished The Book Of Ebenezer Le Page by G. B. Edwards. I was sorry when I arrived at the last page - it was a fairly long book about a man who lives all of his life on the Island of Guernsey and covers the era of World War I and WWII. Had trouble getting into it but once it caught me I was hooked for all of yesterday and today. Terribly tiny print and I ended up with red eyes but eye drops helped. Certainly one of the best books I have read in a long time.:)

Closer than Blood - Gregg Olsen

Just finished the book Closer than Blood by Gregg Olsen. Really disappointing, improbable and convoluted plot, not up to his usual standard of writing. I usually enjoy his books but this one just didn't have it. Kept thinking it would get better but no such luck. :star2:

Just finished The Last Victim by Kevin O'Brien, a good thriller, had me guessing right up until the last few pages and even the last page had a surprise. Haven't read anything by him before but will certainly look for more of his books once I get through the pile of library books I took out today.:star3:

I read Disturbed by Kevin O'Brien recently for the first time. I will definitely be looking for more.

Hi Ricko: Have always been an avid reader - mostly read in the evenings as I don't watch much telly. Household chores and gardening are daytime activities but evenings are reading time. Hubby watches the baseball games in the family room and I have the living room to myself. Heaven for me is a good book. We used to golf a lot but other half has had a heart bypass and golfing is not comfortable for him. We're sedentary old folks. :D
