Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan: The Strain

Just finished The Strain last night and have to admit that I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to getting The Fall. I did find one part a little implausible but it's horror and there has to be that element to it!

The Gus/Ancients angle should make for some good reading.

The Ron Perlman connection makes sense with Del Toro having directed Hellboy. Perlman is awesome and I love that he has a place in the Hollyweird!

Finished The Fall yesterday and I'm running out to buy The Night Eternal today. I loved the scene in The Fall when the vamps derailed the train and the swarmed over the car like that scene from Del Toro's Mimic.

The Night Eternal came out today. Anybody going to pick this up anytime soon. I've put a hold at the local library. I saw a couple of reviews on Amazon and they both had a 5 stars saying it was a perfect ending to the trilogy.

I have read the first two books. I gave The Strain three stars and The Fall two stars. I definitely like how they have broken from recent tradition and have taken the romance out of the vampire. These are definitely monsters, and I like that. I also like that there are different types of vampires. And if you enjoy action packed books, and I do, this series definitely fits that bill.

But I don’t really feel any connection to the characters. They all seem like clones of various movie characters I have seen over the years. And The Fall dragged on for me from one blood bath to the next. Sure, a lot of action, but I found it tedious. That said, I will likely get around to reading the third to see how it all ends.

I do get the feeling that these books were written with the intent of being made into movies. When reading them I felt like I was watching a movie. Of course del Toro is a director and screenwriter so that shouldn’t come as a surprise.

I've taken far too much time reading The Fall, but I've gotten distracted by other books along the way. I should be finished in another day or two. However, after reading the books fairly close together I'm thinking that I like the second book best so far. How else is one to combat a rampant viral spread of that magnitude without a bloodbath?

I certainly hope these books are made into movies. Anyone have dream casting ideas?

I just checked my hold on The Night Eternal from the library and I'm at #7. I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Finished the trilogy a couple of days ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to see some prequel books focusing on Setrakian or Mr. Quinlan.

Finished it. While the ending wasn't great as I had hope, it was still an enjoyable read because of the relationships between the characters.
