Mass Effect Series

I failed to complete Mass Effect 1 because I visited a planet in the wrong order and ended up in a boss fight that was way too hard for my skills and after like 40 attempts I quit... Also the whole Kinnect thing with ME3 is kind of off-putting in an RPG, no? Can't wait for Diablo 3 though...

You don't have to use kinect...you can but I don't think you have to.
Ah, buy the guidebook for the maps and give it another go. It's a great story in the end. The novels are touch and go, but the game itself is very good.

There was a huge controversy over the recent novelizations I understand? From following various background chatter on some of the video game news sites. Inconsistencies etc.

The game was fun, and had an interesting story for sure, but it became hassle and I couldn't be bothered to restart, and then I started something else instead...

What was that something else? Diablo? I've heard of that series but don't know much about it. It's kinda like me and Final Fantasy...it's so huge now, I don't feel like starting though I hear they sort of differ in how good they are. You can play ME 3 without playing the others.
The game will just let you write what happened as you go along in character creation I think.

Is anyone here waiting for ME 3 to come out?
I WAS looking forward to it, but then I heard that you are forced to install this Origin and register there - and I am definitley against this kind of restrictions!
If there would be a chance to play ME 3 without such boundaries one day I would be so happy to buy and play it, but so far the series ends with part 2 for me. :(

Yes, I just finished ME2 in fact, and loved both it and ME1. I'm the cheap guy who buys games when they are 2-3 years old and costs a fraction of its retail launch price. :)

But ME3 I may decide to buy before waiting *too* long. :)

But ME2's Miranda, I mean come on! A more obvious nerdbait I have never seen. I almost laughed out loud during the scene where she was talking about her younger sister. She struck many poses that weren't really all that necessary in a chitchat.

Miranda's okay. I think I liked the down to earthy feel of Ashley's character, but Miranda's still a neat character.

And what are you talking about, Loema?

For playing the PC version of the game you must have an Origin-account (it's something like Steam but especially for EA games).

I guess this problem doesn't exist with consoles? Have no experience with them...

You wouldn't have this problem with consoles, no. But do you have Steam already? If you do then Origin is just another system, right?

But I suppose I too won't like it if I had to install Steam and Origin and goodness knows what else they come up with.

It's too bad ME3 won't be available on Steam.

I don't like Steam either.
I'm a rather old-fashioned type of player, who prefers playing games without necessary online-activation and similar restrictions... ;)

Ah, I see. For Mass series I'm a console kinda gal. I imagine that those systems are like the battlenet for blizzard entertainment...so you can group all the games together. It's how they suck you in to buy more games.

Honestly though, Mass isn't a subscription based game, but that would make getting your pc download stuff easier. I think it's probably better on the console version unless you really want to do co-op PC style.

I used to feel that way about Steam, but it's actually so convenient and has made moving games from one PC to another over the years so much easier than messing around with conventional media that are usually packed away/lost/missing.

My only issue with Steam is that I will occasionally buy a game solely because it's on special and appears super cheap, only to never touch it afterwards having bought it only as it was very cheap.

Hey, a gaming gal! Cool! :) Did you like any of the guy characters in ME?

Will, I agree completely on Steam! :) I too have been collecting icons because of the sales. But I eventually play them. You know, about 2-3 years later. Eventually. :)

The companies don't really care if you play the game...just that you buy it. I know exactly what you're saying though, Will, because I bought Lego star wars clone wars...just because it was cheap and haven't touched it yet. Whoops...had other stuff to do

You mean the NPCs, direstraits? Kaidan was all right. Jacob wouldn't really talk to me in ME2. Then I sort of forgot to go back and try to keep those conversations going.

ok, i caved and got the digital deluxe edition. i cannot preload, however, despite reports that I'm supposed to be able to.

Ha. I go console so I don't have that problem. I got The Old Republic though and that took my lovable dinosaur of a computer 4 days to download.

Ok, the preloading is done, and apparently I get to run it in the next 10 hours. We'll see, because I'm half dead from lack of sleep today.

I'll try not to spoil it for you! ;)

I might have the guide book before the game, so I'll probably be spoiled enough as it is...I play the game a few times through anyway, so it doesn't matter.
