Regular Kindle or Kindle Fire??

The $79 is not touch. It is like the keyboard one but minus the keyboard. It uses a soft keyboard that you navigate with the buttons.

Don't know if they are still doing it but walmart had the kindle fire for $200 and came with a $50 gift card making the fire $150.

I have a regular keyboard kindle and really like it. Have no use for a fire and hate touch screens.

After hearing everyone on here and others that I know that have the various devices, I am going to get the regular kindle $79 one with the cover that has the light built in. I am so glad that I posted this because I was originally going to get the Fire ha ha

 you know that is my ultimate goal..to read more books. I found out my library does have a decent selection of e-books too, so that makes me feel better already :)

Actually, I have both the Kindle Fire and I think the Kindle Keyboard 3G. For reading pure text, the 3G version is fine as long as the publisher isn't a freaking idiot. A publisher who shall remain nameless decided to simply put his computer book (about $50) out in Kindle format with no changes. Unfortunately for me, the code samples in the original book were printed in blue with a gray background.

You could tell that there was something there, but it was impossible to read anything. Amazon took the book back and credited my account. The Kindle Fire on the other hand has color support. I have not tried that book again because I don't want to tempt the fates - and it did not work on the Amazon PC kindle reader. If color is important, then choose the Kindle Fire.

I will go with the regular kindle and see how it is. I have never had any e-reader, so I think I should start basic since all I want to do is to read a book on it :)

Hey MsBlueEyzz, I just went through this myself and ended up making the same decision you have come to. I am very pleased with the basic kindle. It is absolutely perfect to just read books on. I've had mine for a little over a month now and I am completely converted to e-reading (just about). I think you will be happy with it.
:)

753C-That makes me feel much better about my purchase. Many people have told me they have a different version and are saying to get the regular one for what I want or even that they don't like certain things about there "fancier" one. Not everyone mind you, but a few :)

My girlfriend bought a cover for her wireless regular kindle that has a pop-out light, and she loves it. Reads it everywhere.

That is what I am going to get also :) I think that will help a lot when reading in bed, which I do a lot of. I am so excited because now that I have decided what I want it will be ordered. It will just be a late Valentine's Day present, but that is my own fault for not knowing what I wanted to ask for hee hee

Update: I received my basic Kindle in the mail today. Tomorrow my cover with light should be arriving. I already love it. I really like the fact that it is light and easy to hold on to with only one hand. Also I like how you can change the font.
Thanks to everyone for their help as it made it easier to decide which one to buy :)

Neat! I couldn't believe how clear the thing was to read. I'm definitely impressed with them, but still prefer a paper book. :D

I just won’t get a Kindle because I know I’ll like the thing, and then I’ll never buy books. I guess I’m just not one for a whole lot of electronic devices. I don’t like computers in my cars, I prefer pianos to synthesizers, and I don’t trust the electronic slot machines. :D

Gimmie old, old, old!

LOL My bookcase is already full and there are certain books I will still buy since I want a paper copy. I wonder if eventually we won't have that luxury.
Regardless, there are certain technological advances that I can do without as well :)

I'm only now considering publishing on Amazon for the Kindle. I'm waiting on cover art for my chess/ghost story. :D It should be out soon. Probably 99¢.
