Mass Effect Series

Had an initial run through the game immediately after the unlock yesterday night. The combat is improved, and the views are stunning. My laptop's not exactly the best thing in the world, so the dialogue scenes were plagued with overly shadowed faces, but the game moved along at a good clip. If you've recently came out from Mass Effect 2 you'll have no problems continuing where you left off - the controls are largely the same (I finished ME2 end of last year, so plenty of things still stuck with me).

Hmmmm.... I am wondering whether to start Mass Effect again (to get around being stuck at that certain boss battle) so I can get involved in the action here...

LeoMa,

I'm having a blast so far, and I'm kinda assuaged that the game doesn't suck badly enough for me to sweat over the amount I ponied up.

I did see the Metacritic scores, and they are basically picketing over the sales tactics rather than the game. Mostly. There are some panning it for the ending.

To be honest, that actually gives me hope for the ending. Since I'm not opposed to a bleak ending, I find that I'm strangely looking forward to a bittersweet close to the series. Some of the best books I've read were bittersweet, even frustratingly so, but nevertheless still great reads.

That's the hope, anyway. :)

Also, I beginning to find the argument (by the Metacritic users) against the installation of the Origin client to be weaker the more I think about it. The Origin client isn't doing any more or less than what the Steam client is doing on a practical level, and the difference isn't likely to affect a person who just wants to play the game.

Yes, I'm looking forward to your opinion about the ending(s). Some players seem to be really disappointed...

I read one comment that says something like:
The endings are so bad that you don't have the wish to play any of the Mass Effects games ever again... hmm... probably/maybe an exaggeration...

As I mentioned before that I don't like Steam, either this is not the way to change my opinion about Origin, but I have the (very small) hope that maybe one day there will be a budget version released that can be installed and played completely offline. *dreaming* ;)

LoeMa,

I'm very afraid of your spoiler, so i will not read that one. :D The game is looking bloody huge, so it'll be some time before I'll give you feedback on the ending. :)

But it looks like ME3 will not be disengaged from Origin. Much like Portal won't be.

I beat mass effect (number one) 2.5 times ( quit during the third game towards the end) and I am playing mass effect 2 right now so I can justify buying mass effect 3. I am sure I'll like 3 though.

Midway through now...it is awesome so far. I read the endings, but I don't mind spoilers. You kind of have to expect something grim from a galactic invasion story.

I have finished the game, and I have to say I don't understand the hate on the ending. Quite frankly the only way I thought it could have ended, but even then it's not a straight road to the skyline. Oh no, you have to *think*.

I enjoyed the heck out of it.

LoeMa, I read your spoiler now, and for me at least, I disagree with the statement.

Which ending did you get? put it it spoilers. What "readiness" were you?

I found a lot of assets, but I don't have online...so my readiness is gonna stink.

I got a fairly decent ending, sad of course, but still a great game. Certain parts of the game annoyed me, but overall, it was entertaining.

I've been stalling on my second run through the game. I don't know if I'll finish it. That would be sad, but the replayability of this game just isn't up there with the other two. The first game I beat 2 and a half times, the second one 2 times, and this one 1 and so far 1/2 times.

Who is your favorite companion in the ME series?
