Fascinating scientific stuff

Regarding this subject, at least in my anecdotal experience, it has also been the second, third, fourth, ninety ninth...

*shrug* Far more people would argue today that, for instance, "negroes" or "jews" are subhuman than 60 years ago. So clearly things are changing in the right direction, if not overnight. But as long as it's used at all, and causing a lot of damage, I don't see why we should just give up and say "Oh well, can't change anything."

Oh, I still point out that there is a reason the names Homo sapien mongoloid,Homo sapien negroid and Homo sapien caucasoid do not exist every time it is relevant.

Just pointing out that people tend to WANT there to be easily identifiable social groups. What is easier than minor aesthetic variations?

True. Which is one example of why we should point out every chance we get that the easiest solutions aren't always (or even ever) the correct ones.

ÖTZI , the Ice mummy's Secrets found in DNA !

As a reminder : The Tyrolean Iceman or Ötzi to his friends, was discovered in the Ötztal Alps ( near Hauslabjoch on the border between Austria and Italy ) back in 1991 and has since then given scientists a window onto humans some 5,300 years ago .

Researchers announced the results of a mitochondrial genome sequence of our pal Ötzi. Their findings confirmed previous research into the iceman’s genome. For instance, the researchers believe that Ötzi had brown eyes and brown hair. The researchers also found mutations on his MCM6 gene, which suggest that Ötzi was lactose intolerant. (( I supposed it :) )) --- That wasn’t the only health ailment Ötzi had to worry about. The researchers also found that he was predisposed to heart disease, which explains the fat found in his arteries . ( ... ) Looking beyond the Iceman, the team compared the DNA from 1300 Europeans, 125 North Africans and 20 people from the Arabian peninsula to Ötzi and the closest relatives to the Iceman can be found around the islands of Corsica and Sardinia .

ESO - eso1214 - Many Billions of Rocky Planets in the Habitable Zones around Red Dwarfs in the Milky Way

A new result from ESO’s HARPS planet finder shows that rocky planets not much bigger than Earth are very common in the habitable zones around faint red stars. The international team estimates that there are tens of billions of such planets in the Milky Way galaxy alone, and probably about one hundred in the Sun’s immediate neighbourhood. This is the first direct measurement of the frequency of super-Earths around red dwarfs, which account for 80% of the stars in the Milky Way.

(...)

As there are many red dwarf stars close to the Sun the new estimate means that there are probably about one hundred super-Earth planets in the habitable zones around stars in the neighbourhood of the Sun at distances less than about 30 light-years.

We should buy a vacation planet now before they become popular and the prices are driven up by pensioners.

...and we've heard from no one. I reckon we're being shunned, and they're talking about us when we're round the back of the sun. :)

We've been quarantined by the Galactic Commonwealth due to behavior unbecoming of a sentient species.

They were kind of bummed to have to do it, the planet has pretty nice curb appeal.
