Hi all

I am new to this forum, but poking around I see a lot of conversation about books I like, so I think I found a good place to hang out.

About me, I prefer books in the sci-fi, mystery and thriller genres along with history and biographies. I also like fantasy from time to time, but tend to avoid the young adult or romance (by that I include a lot of the urban fantasy and vampire books with a heavy romance element) style books. In a lot of communities that usually puts me in the minority as it seems these are the 2 most popular styles out there.

Definitely not in the minority here - I am just having a bit of a moan here because I'm having a browse through some books and the books under 'fantasy' are precisely those kind of of books. IMHO these are not fantasy but as you say YA romance. Throwing in a werewolf, vampire or zombie does not make it a fantasy.

Sorry LOL :welcome to the forum.

That drives me crazy. The Fantasy section at the book store is a wasteland for real fantasy. I don't know if you have heard of it, but there is the first in a series by John Gwynne called Malice that was pretty good and definitely not the YA style of fantasy (consequently I just finished it and reviewed it last week).

You know the worst part is when you grab a book off the shelf, read the synopsis, thumb through it, think it is straight up Fantasy and get suckered half way through. Stealth YA books.

Greetings TStarnes! Pull up a chair. Put your feet up. Can I offer you a cup of tea? [:- )

Meadow, I have no Oolong *pulls pants pockets inside out to show he isn't hiding any*. All I have is regular, black, English breakfast tea.

EDIT : STOP THE PRESSES .... I just found two packets of cinnamon spice tea which is sort of like Oolong in a party dress

ROFLMAO ... ok ok English breakfast tea it is :) 2 sugars, and milk please :D :D I'll bring the biccies for dunking.
