As long as we are discussing western books and movies, have either of you seen the movie, The Life And Times Of Judge Roy Bean? It is a serious/comic western about the real life figure Roy Bean who was known as "The Law West of the Pecos". It is an outstanding movie with an excellent combination of comedy and drama and I would heartily encourage you to see it if you have not already done so. I don't think you would be disappointed. The lead was played brilliantly by Paul Newman.

Sorry moved, just a bit too off-topic. And its worth having a thread to discuss westerns, there are a bunch of really good ones.

And right you were to move it. I wasn't aware of this thread. Anyway here is a taste of The Life And Times Of Judge Roy Bean if anyone is interested ...

I have not seen it, my most recent western was Django which was totally brilliant, but then I simply love Quentin Tarrantino's movies.

Before that that I THOROUGHLY enjoyed despite initial reservations was Cowboys and Aliens.

Other recent(ish) westerns I have enjoyed was Open Range with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall. And I finally got to see Legends of the Fall recently after trying and missing for years.

And right you were to move it. I wasn't aware of this thread.

I just created it LOL when I moved it :p

And for sheer western lovers pleasure one should try to see how many classic westerns and actors are referenced in Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan. The title is #1 on the list.

I also enjoyed Django but then as Meadow said he makes good movies :). Cowboys and Aliens was actually quite fun, when I first saw the trailer I thought, "really?!" lol. Legends of the Fall was a sad but brilliant movie.
