I am currently reading Karen Joy Fowler's 'We are Completely Beside Ourselves' which was shortlisted for this year's Booker. I am really enjoying and was thinking about reading Richard Flanagan's Narrow Road to the Deep North too. Has anyone read any of the other shortlisted novels? What do you think of them? Any recommendations for future reads?

I haven't read any of the others beyond Narrow Road, but I would recommend that wholeheartedly. It's such a brilliant book!

I haven't but I have been wanting to read We Are Completely Besides Ourselves for a while now. So much to read, so little time. :D

The Narrow Road was pretty darned good. I liked it a great deal. Had a few misgivings about some of the plot elements, but hey, you can't argue against the quality of the writing. Flanagan is pretty amazing.

To be honest, I read half the short list for 2013, and it put me off Man Booker books... However I love 'The Luminaries' (it won 2013), so I'm considering picking up The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

Yeah, those prize lists are always hit or miss, and some years are way better than others. You might give the Narrow Road a shot. It is really brilliant in a lot of ways.
