Any suggestion for a really good horror?

Preferentially older authors ( like E.A.Poe, H.P.Lovecraft )... but new books like Metro 2033/4 are welcome as well.
-it does not have to be full of blood, but more mysterious and scary - of course there should be some "bloody chapters" but not every moment.

Annihilation by John Vandermeer sort of scratched my itch for lovecraft while simultaneously setting the stage from what I can only describe as a pretty damn weird trilogy. It doesn't go anywhere fast but it's certainly weird, mysterious, and creepy.

House of Leaves by Mark Danielski is something a lot of people find creepy as well but I'd say don't dig for it unless you're into sort of... avant-garde horror? It's good but not if you're looking for a casual read.

Honestly, I'm as curious as you are to see what gets posted in this thread. Been looking for some new horror reads.

I really liked Dan Simmons' The Terror but it might not be exactly what you are looking for.

If you want something in the vein of Lovecraft, check out something like Cthulhu's Heirs and other books from Chaosium.

I'm also looking for horror books, I'm going to give metro 2033 a try, thank you for suggesting it

I found a list of horror writers at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_horror_fiction_writers . Hit PgDn and you can see some sub genres of horror - under links you can find some suggestion of writers for certain genre.

Couldnt put it down once i started reading, fantastic would recommend to anyone who likes a horror/mystery read
