Current Non-Fiction reads

Finally getting around to reading Team Of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. I'm only on page 200 of this 750 page book but I am already blown away by the depth of research which must have gone into this project. Each page has something interesting to offer about the people and the times being presented.

Totally loving it so far !!!!

The Lincoln book I mentioned above seems to have spurred an interest in me to read more about American presidents. I just completed John Adams, by David McCullough and was once more blown away by an exceptionally well-written book.

I have come to the conclusion that most Americans are taught the important facts about various personalities of American history in school and they then close the door on the subject assuming they know what is important to know, the details remain buried are most often never exhumed. This book, as well as the Lincoln book -Team Of Rivals by Goodwin- puts you right in the middle of the day-to-day events that these people experienced, and suddenly stories which previously were understood in a sort of mythic texture become real and palpable.

This book was an enormously satisfying read. I am ashamed to admit that it took the painstakingly well researched effort of a master historian to awaken in me a voracious appetite to learn more about the men who created and have maintained my government through its history.

I feel can highly recommend this book with confidence that people of all walks of life, regardless of their country of origin, will be both entertained as well as enlightened with regard to a pivotal period in human history.

Journal of a Ghosthunter: In Search of the Undead from Ireland to Transylvania by Simon Marsden

I think of this book as a box of chocolates. You start reading one story, about one place and then another one and then another one… Unputdownable and the photographs are amazing!

Want to hear something really strange? A few years after reading (and loving!) this book for the first time, I moved to Ireland and ended up living about 2 miles from one of the places he featured in this book!

I haven't started this non-fiction book yet, as I just found it through a bestseller books list. It looks like a fascinating and revealing read. I may even have to bump it to the top of my reading list, lol.

The book is "The Secret Rooms: A True Story of a Haunted Castle, a Plotting Duchess, and a Family Secret.

I just started 'Into the Wild'.

All I can say so far is WOW. It's a hard one to put down, even when my eyes are too heavy to keep open.

I am currently reading CHURCHILL DEFIANT-Fighting On 1945-1955 by Barbara Leaming. This is the first book i have read on a politician. I have read several books on Hitler but i dont count him as a politician. I have always been deeply intrigued by Winston Churchill & this book just adds to the intrigue. Superbly written by Barbara Leaming who writes in an easy & understanding manner which enables the reader not to go looking for a dictionary so as to understand certain meanings.

I've recently just read 'I am Malala', which was really, really good. I definitely recommend it. It's scary but it's offers a good insight as to how certain people or groups gain power. But the perspective comes from a civil young woman and not some elite politician.
