Any recommendations for a friend?

I have a friend who's looking for a book to read. She is interested in mystery/spy/criminal/forensic subjects and that is also her career goals. She loves watching Criminal Minds. I think something that is realistic would tickle her fancy. If it can happen in real life, she can relate or be deeper in thought when reading. Her English isn't too strong, so perhaps something that isn't overwhelmingly hard to read. (I'd say elementary/middle school level would be too easy, and something like Tolkien would be way too hard). But she is always willing push herself to improve her English reading/writing/speaking. She graduated High School with honors and got A's in her English classes. She is 25 years old. Sex, gore, and violence is fine. Do you have any recommendations on a great book she might enjoy reading? Thanks.

Louise Penny, who's a great best-selling mystery writer from Canada, who's won about every mystery fiction prize there is, wrote a book called The Hangman in 2010 as part of a Canadian literary program for adult new readers. It received great reviews, and it's available inexpensively for Kindle. There's apparently a whole series of the books in different genres and by different authors. I don't know if your friend might be interested, but the series would be worth googling.

edited to add--

If she likes fantasy/sci fi, Anne McCaffery has an old, huge series set on the planet Pern. The first of her work I read was included in a ninth-grade high school English textbook. It's from the 1970s, I believe, but it is not dated. The title is Dragonsong. It's beautifully written, deals with a 15-year-old girl growing up as a talented musician and composer in a society where women's roles are strictly restricted and creativity is subordinated to tradition. It's the first in what's called the Harper Hall Trilogy, the other two books being Dragonsinger and Dragonsong. Don't be put off by the young adult classification some editions carry, because it's definitely adult themed but without graphic romance or violence. I periodically re-read titles in the series.

I think she would enjoy Catherine Coulters FBI Series, featuring Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock.
They are husband and wife FBI agents and computer specialists There is a lot of action and they
work really well together. With their son, they show a nice family side as well.

My interests match your friends very closely and I recently started reading books by Harlan Coben and they are excellent. I just started his series based on the character Myron Bolitar and its intriguing so far. The one that I read that really got me interested in his writiting, though, was Gone for Good...I couldn't put it down!

Hi I would recommend 'let them eat cake' by winterly Amis it's short thriller, to the point and quite unnerving. I don't really want to give anything away as it will spoil it but there are moments where you really hold your breath. It was an unintentional purchase on kindle but I'm glad I did. Haven't read anything like it in a while, definitely worth the read.
