looking for some suggestions

I feel like I return more books to the library than actually read and need some suggestions. The last James Patterson book I bought ended up in the trash. I have read some John Sanford, Lawrence Block, Sue Grafton, Margaret Maron, Robert Crais, Ken Follett, Margaret Coels recently. Any suggestions. I don't like really violent books or books where children get kidnapped or hurt

If you haven't tried Diana Gabladon's Outlander series it is excellent. It is not just a romance, but time travel, adventure, history and complex relationships.

I find it good sometimes to go back to the classics. I just read The Lady in the Lake by Raymond Chandler, one of his Phillip Marlowe mysteries.

Ditto on James Patterson. :)
I'll suggest Peter May's Blackhouse trilogy. Interesting stories about people, with detective/mysteries shot through. The beginning of the first one does have a teenager having been killed in an auto accident, it's necessary background for the detective but it isn't graphic or dwelt upon in the stories. May is really an interesting author, he makes the islands a true character of the books. Well worth the read.

Have you read any of Dick Francis's mysteries? They are all based on the horse racing world in England and are wonderful. DF has passed away, but his son, Felix has kept the tradition going although FF's are not as.....heartfelt as his fathers in my opinion. Francis's Blood Sport is among his very best.

Also Anne Cleeves "Vera" series is quite good.

Michael Connelly's Bosch series is good, gritty, but excellent. The original Amazon series, Bosch, is quite good, and an excellent representation of Connelly's books. I think The Black Echo might be the first of that series.

One more rec.... :) Keigo Higashino's mysteries are quite good. The first of his I read was The Devotion of Suspect X, and is interestingly twisty.

Anyhow, good luck. :)

I've read probably about 40 or so of the Dick Francis novels. I did enjoy those. I have also read some of the Bosch series, but not many. The others I have not read, but I will look into. thanks for the suggestions

Jeffsi,
The single most absorbing espionage thriller I have read recently is I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. It is immensely interesting and suspenseful from end to end and I don't think you can go wrong with it.
Happy reading :)

I recently read Look to the Sun by Emmie Mears. It's a book about social conscience with some good action and a touch of romance. It was very well written and made me think.
