I want to read the important books

Hi Im getting on. Almost 60. I need to read the important books. The ones that point to life's meaning. Apart from the Bible of course. Ive read some Dostoyevsky and he is probably my favourite. Now on to Chesterton. he is challenging to comprehend but Im ploughing through Orthodoxy. Maybe Im kidding myself I am an intellectual Christian.
Ive always been a fan of the classics though. Rarely do I read a book by modern authors.
Should I just lighten up and read comics?

Classics are great but why limit yourself. Any book can be life inspiring and meaningful to a person. There may be some genres that will be of no interest to you, but why not branch out into more modern authors, or try a different classic.

As for comics, some of them are brilliant allegories of humankind,, what we go through and our history.

If you enjoy the challenge of the classic, go for it. However, there are plenty of 19th and 20th century classics that shed light on the human condition. You may find some of them meaningful in contemporary times.
