I just bought a book by Terry Goodkind called the Faith of the Fallen. When I came home from the bookstore I found out that it was number 6 in a series :( .. So I just want to know if anyone has read The Sword of Thruth series and what they think about it.

Thanks Freya
From what I have read other people say about it, it doesn't appear to be a great series, but I will probably know soon enough.

I found it at bit irritating that it was a series, I was looking for a book to read in a couple of days and nowhere on the cover does it say that it is book 6 .. :(

whats the title of his newest one?
its set in the same world as sword of truth, but follows zed and a new character instead of the normal plot lines.
its also only about 100-150 pages.

it's called debt of bones.(the newest one about zedd) Its sort of like a prequel to the sword of truth series.
as for the sword of truth series, well i liked it alot at the beginning- except well the fifth book kind of got boring, and then faith of the fallen, the sixth book made a pretty strong comeback....and pillars of creation, the seventh, well that just ran the series into the ground. however, the eighth while interesting, was nonetheless completely removed from the plot. I'm hoping he'll bring the series back together in chainfire, the ninth book, coming out in january 2005...

I've read all of them. If you are at an airport about to go on an International flight and that is all they have in the way of SF/Fantasy--go on and get it. It beats a two year old airline magazine. Anyhow, it seems like they generally tend to ramble a bit until the author hits a certain page number, then he gets in a hurry to wrap it before, say, 850 or so. All in all its a pretty good storyline. The first few are the best--Naked Empire just about whupped me.

naked empire wumpped me too but i read it again - i like to punish my self sometimes, and it does work... in a kina wiered way when you haven't slept for 3 days solid.
still looking forward to the next book though, even have it on pre-order.

Just in case you didn't know, the first one is Wizard's First Rule.

I liked the first three well enough - some nice ideas and entertaining characters. But then it just got a bit tedious. I wish authors knew when to cut their losses and run with a series. We currently have both Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan milking their series for all they can get (Laurell K Hamilton is doing the same thing with her Anita Blake series, to some extent).

Oh yeah. Thats the one that was written by Robert Jordan.

No, you're wrong Prolixic.

Terry Goodkind wrote Debt of Bones as part of his Sword of Truth series.

Robert Jordan wrote New Spring as a prequel to his Wheel of Time series.

I'm afraid I'm busy at work so can't just toddle off to retrieve my copy of Debt of Bones. However, since Debt of Bones belongs in Terry Goodkind's series The Sword of Truth, why on earth would Robert Jordan have written it, since he is the sterling author of the Wheel of Time?

I dont' know but you're in for a shock.

The following is what is posted on amazon.com....

Do you not think they would also have made mention of the fact that copyright was RJ? Do you have the book right there? Can you actually see as you type that it is copyright RJ?

From Publishers Weekly
Terry Goodkind (Faith of the Fallen) presents Debt of Bones, a prequel to his Sword of Truth series that involves series character First Wizard Zedd in the time before the Boundaries were drawn.

Zoli's got it right. I just sort of threw that thing about Robert Jordan writing it as a joke, Mage. When the book was printed Robert Jordan is listed as the author on the Copryright page. *shrug Printing error or something.

Do a google search: debt of bones recall. You'll get a jillion hits. I bought the thing and had it sitting in my read pile when I heard about it.

*blush*

Sorry, I never heard about that error. I thought you were questioning my astonishing knowledge of fantasy books :p

thats an interesting bit of sci-fi/fantasy trivia i am going to have to remember.

i agree that Goodkind really has to try to pull the series back together in chainfire especially as he has all eight of the wizard's rules out and about now.
