Diana Wynne Jones's "The Tough Guide to Fantasyland", a spoof of travel guides and fantasy fiction conventions.
 
I finished Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett a few days ago. It was pretty good and though i really liked it, i think it's not the best from the Discworld series, at least it's not my favorite Discworld book, it's still a nice and easy read.

Ok, I thought this book was very good and the writing was really well too, but I don't see why it was raved about and hyped up so much. I mean it was really good but not rivetting like everyone made it out to be. It seemed more like a Junior High School student was experimenting in writing a book. I would have considered this a childrens book if not for the sexual themes in it.

I give it three and a half out of four stars.

Agree. Brilliant book. Use of language is exhilarating. Lots to think about in terms of free-will, treatment of crime etc.

The protagonist apparently can do everything except fly and stop bullets, but he just doesn't know it yet.

Very good, recommended if you like fantasy. This is like GRRM-lite.

I love this book, ds! The series ending is also really good - it's a little different from some other fantasy series'. I look forward to hearing what you think :)
 
Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder.
I liked the quick walk through the different philosophers, but I could have been without the story. I really didn't like the characters in the book.
 
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. I will be resurrecting the thread dedicated to him in the Authors forum.
 
Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut.
Not at all what I had expected. Vonnegut mixes fiction with elements of his own life to share his thoughts of the world. He does this with a lot sarcasm and has written a book that both made me laugh and think. Great book.
 
Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
Dark, disturbing and all too realistic, this was a terrific book that I had put off reading for far too long. I wouldnt say I actually 'enjoyed' the book, but it is certainly thought-provoking.

The 5 people you meet in heaven

I just finished reading The 5 people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom. It was different than what I thought. I'll say that I enjoyed reading it, but it will not be in my top 10 list.

Ghost Boy by Iain Lawerence...it was very very interesting. About an albino boy who runs away to join a circus where there are other freaks like himself and learns about life and how to stay strong.
 
I just finished Oryx & Crake by Margaret Atwood.
It's very interesting but disppointing a little comapred to her Handmaid's tale.

What's wrong with Charlie? I love that movie! Or did you mean the book? I'm looking forward to the new movie - Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka? That's something I just gotta see.

Nah, it's just that I'm in the final few pages of Charlie, so you'll have to wait at least after this one's done before I will go read the rest of Hobb's.

I'm reminded of just how delightful Roald Dahl is. Very funny. I'm surprised no one in the forum's ever heard of his My Uncle Oswald.

It is nice to hear you also like Roald Dahl. :) Very funny and very twisted.
I knew My Uncle Oswald, too. But unfortunately I didn't got chance to read.
My favorites are Matilda & The Witches
 
I recently finished Steinbeck's East Of Eden. Amazing book with one of my favorite literary characters of all time (Samuel Hamilton).
 
I just finished The Codex by Douglas Preston. I enjoyed this one..a good action adventure tale that may show up on the silver screen someday.
