Hay, The only animated movie that comes in mind at the moment to have long scenes of that kind without dialogue is “Akira”.

“Blood the Last Vampire” and “Grave of the Fireflies” could possibly manage to create similar moods. The latter is a more or less unusual anime as the setting is the second world war in Japan and pigs don’t fly. Instead it deals with the hardships of two kids who are trying to survive in a realistic portrayal. A great feel bad flick.

“Princess Mononoke” and “Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door” have a lot of general goodness. “Cowboy Bebop” is set in a not so distant future (by science fiction standards) and is in that way the most similar to “Ghost in the Shell” and it’s not too bad at creating nice moods either even if it isn’t perfect (The lyrics in the soundtrack can be a bit bizarre however).

I much prefer Grave of the Fireflies to Blood. I believe everyone should see Grave whatever their movie inclinations are, because it's really good.

Blood looks much better, of course. :)

Can you understand Japanese?

I loved the Cowboy Bebop series and the movie Knockin' On Heaven's Door. But IMHO, it's less complex compared to something like Mononoke.

Any other anime of note?

Can't understand Japanese but like most I've had a short language lesson from "Shogun" so I should be able to say that I don't understand at least.

I'm not sure that I would say that "Mononoke" is more complex than "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", I think that it's quite straightforward in its' ecological message. In "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" however there's a twist that suggest that
the whole event is something that Spike dreamt

Out of the Ghiblis I would recommend: Spirited Away, "Pom Poko", "My Neighbor Totoro", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "Laputa: Castle in the Sky".

"The Professional: Golgo 13" which is a bit underrated. It has a lot of good things that speaks for it, then again there's a couple of bad things as well. You just have to be able to overlook a bit. I could for example have done without the 3d effect which change the perspective entirely and isn't very impressive today.

"Kite" is a very nice little action flick and it's the best hentai movie I've seen so far.
 
Thanks Wolhay! I've got the full Ghibli set up to Spirited Away, so I'm familiar with the studio's brilliant work. Of them all, I suppose I really love Grave, Spirited Away, Mononoke and Totoro. I've yet to give Nausicaa a spin, though.

Today I saw Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. After the other two prequels, I wasn't expecting much, and I went just to see how it "ended". To my surprise, I thought it was excellent. I really enjoyed it. I even ended up feeling a bit sorry for Anakin! :confused: Great light sabre battles.

BTW, can anyone with a good memory tell me
what Padme said before she died?
The sound's not too great at our tiny cinema and she mumbled a bit, so I didn't catch it.
 
I finally saw "SAW"! It had a great twist but was still a bit tame for my tastes. I need therapy.

Last seen - Finding Neverland, starring johnny Depp as J. M. Barrie, the author of the Peter Pan stories. Fantastic film.

Saw In the Bedroom last night. Wow. Nobody told me it was a vengeance movie. I thought it was going to be a big drag but I thought the vengeance aspect really rang true. Tom Wilkinson is really good in this.
 
Lost Highway. Unfortunatly I was a bit distracted when I saw this movie, so I think I missed some important parts. Don't know why but I love the way this movie was filmed, it added to some strange feeling, not the usual lynch thing. Besides that the music is really great and seems to fit quite well.

i bet you didn't miss anything. i was completely baffled by this film. i enjoyed it regardless. i loved that little creepy man. "i'm in your house right now." music was awesome, too.
