    An astonishing foreseeing author...

I recommend Margaret Atwood. She calls herself a writer of speculative fiction. Some of her novels are not set in the future, but I read two of them that are: Oryx and Crake The Handmaid's Tale Both are fantastic.

    F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Great Gatsby

Gizmo - I also did not think much of the novel. I can appreciate what the novel was to its time, but that didn't help me enjoy the story any more. Parts were written very beautifully, but the story itself didn't do much for me. I feel I understand the elements of the story (I agree Maey's review...

How many genres do you like to read?

my very favorite genre is post apocalyptic (that's pretty specific), but i also love historical fiction, sci-fi and adventure. i also like classics, i suppose because of the historical elements in them. i don't like contemporary drama, suspense or romances

    Pick One...

Novella, you continually astound me. That was excellent! AquaBlue - I love all the books in your list (except the Great Gatsby - I didn't enjoy that one very much.) Most of those were a favorite of mine at one time. Right now, from your list, it's a toss up for me between Catcher In the Rye...

    Best and Worst

Best Novel = Blindness by Jose Saramago (it became an instant favorite) Worst novel = The Silent Lady by Catherine Cookson Best non-fiction = Vancouver by D. Cruise and A. Griffiths. It may not qualify as non-fiction, but portions of it are accurate (as the stories unfold around actual events)...

What are you listening to Right now?

oh Nosferatu! God has nothing to do with it for so many people! For me, it's a declaration of commitment to one person. "As you are mine, I am yours" I didn't mean to take this topic off the theme, but I had to say this! Anyway, right now I am listening to the news on the TV behind me.

    Is it just me?

I always try to read the book before I watch any movie - but I always want to see the movie regardless of what I thought of the book. I especially itch to watch movies based on classics (I hunt them out after I read the book.) Sometimes the movie gives me an insight into the book, or brings up...

Films re-enacted by bunnies in 30 seconds

I love IAWL too, it's almost a tradition for me to watch it every year. Unfortunately, I'm at work right now so I can't watch the bunnies. But I will remind myself to check it out once I get home. I love the Bunny re-enactments!!

    Clive Cussler v Wilbur Smith?

I LOVE Wilbur Smith books. I've read almost all of them, his historical ones are my favorites. I can't put them down once I start. I've tried to buy Cussler novels but when I read the backs of them I don't get the same feel for them - they seem modern and technical. Smith's books are sweeping...

    Native American Fiction

I read a book earlier this year called Vancouver. It's an historical fiction book containing several stories (each of a different character), spanning thousands of years and most of the stories include Native Americans. It's set in Vancouver, Canada for the most part so of course that's what...

    Top 5 Bands

RitalinKid, I had a chance to read through the last few pages of posts (haven't had time to visit here very often). Our views on music are very very similar. :) I totally agree that nowadays you have to dig to find good music. I personally don't care how music is produced (electronically or...

LOL as for BO's age, because the months were written in parenthese, it didn't occur to me to even check. had it been typed "On my next birthday I'll be 25 years old and 252 months" then i would have thought to do the math. as it was, i just figured the months were referring to the years. the...

    The next big thing

in Canada, i think Margaret Atwood's novels might be read. there are a lot of discussion topics found in her novels that could be valuable educationally and, as a canadian writer, schools here might lean towards reading her books. analyzing speculative fiction written in the past is one of those...
