I would second Ashlea's recommendation. Whilst I enjoyed The Ender Saga, the Shadow series books were faster paced and easier to read.

I'm with Ice on this one - I thought that it states quite categorically in the books that Snape was in Slytherin. However after reading this thread I am now starting to doubt whether I have just always assumed that he was - I will have to check when I get home :D
