    Somebody else’s child & discipline

Schools and school districts are some of the biggest bureaucracies around. There are reams and reams of paper governing every aspect of curriculum, instruction, discipline, facilities, budget -- everything you can imagine, and some things you can't. At my daughter's school this year, we found...

    Somebody else’s child & discipline

I think a call to the school or district psychologist would have been more productive than a call to the cops in this case. Again, this is a situation where are the facts are not being shown -- does the child suffer from emotional problems, learning problems, family problems (besides a lack of...

    I Don't Like Secrets...

It's you. That was a perfectly PG-13 post.

    I Don't Like Secrets...

I'd just like to point out that my secret rebel base in the Hollywood Hills is nowhere near Stewart's secret Afghan cave and that in no way have I ever roused his rabble. If his rabble is roused, that's his own doing.

    I Don't Like Secrets...

But one only has to click the "View Moderators" to see which members online are also moderators. Not taking a side in whether this makes a loophole a loophole or not. And when one is labeled an insurgent (fairly or not), one may as well run with it.

    Ice Cream: What's your favorite?

I'm missing something in this discussion... Is there such a thing as "bad" ice cream? It's ALL good! Couldn't pick a favorite if I tried.

    I Don't Like Secrets...

I'm still abiding by a truce until Darren returns but, respectfully, novella raises a fair point.

    Jell-o & Cool Whip Pie

And if I may venture a recommendation: The album is called "Reconstruction Site" the band is a Canadian outfit called "The Weakerthans" -- a marriage of very literate lyrics to a sort of grownup garage band sound. Special recommendation to the song "Plea from a Cat Named Virtue."

    Jell-o & Cool Whip Pie

As I read your reply, I was listening to Joey Ramone's "What a Wonderful World." :) The coffee shop I used to stop in on the way to work used to play reggae every Wednesday, it was like taking a little vacation before facing the reality of work.

    Jell-o & Cool Whip Pie

The two I mentioned are very good. And since Stoppard's is a sort of alternative version of "Hamlet" I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Translation are tricky, aren't they? I've read different translations of Rimaud and Neruda and they can really give a poem a different tone, a different shading...

    Where is Darren Lewis?

I have heard that he is on holiday this week.

    Mom

It never really goes away, Moto. My Mom's been gone...wow! a lot of years, and still there are days when I'm blindsided by the loss, especially when I see the role I play in my daughter's life, it makes that great emptiness created so many years ago so painstakingly obvious. However, what I...

To the Moms in the forum

Thank you, and a Happy Mother's Day to the rest of the Moms. May you get pancakes with only a few eggshells in them and lovely hand-made presents with lots of colored paper and sticky glue.

    Internet Friendships and Such

As my mother was only 28 when she died, I passed it long ago, but I know the feeling you mean. It was an odd year. Another odd year was when my daughter reached the age that I had been when my mother died (she had her children young, I didn't have mine until I was nearly 33). There was a...

The Undead, a poem (and not one about D&D)

Irene Wilde only understands simple words, and so cannot comment here. Actually, I'm only posting this because my eye keeps reading the topic line as "The Undead Slugbaby" and I find that disturbing. This way, it will read "The Undead Irene Wilde" -- which is less disturbing because I've...

    Internet Friendships and Such

Yes, someone moves from "internet person" to friend, not here in an open forum, but in those sidebars of private messages and e-mails. One of my very, very dear friends moved from "internet person" to friend, when, during on open forum discussion (at a music site, so just that gave us a lot in...

    Internet Friendships and Such

I think that's it. What matters isn't how you met, but that you can have that kind of faith and trust in each other.

Good. 'Cause if you're not addicted, then I'm certainly not addicted!
