    R.A. Salvatore

Over the past few weeks I have been slowly getting all the collector edition omnibuses of the Drizzt books through various sites. I had been contemplating this for a couple of years now and finally took the plunge. They don't seem as "meaty" as I like my fantasy, but they still seem very...

How far ahead do you plan your reading?

I used to plan the next book as I was starting to read one. Meaning that I would always have an "on deck" book. But I stopped doing that recently. Too many times lately I was changing my mind. That usually had to do with how my mood changed while reading the current book. Lately though I...

What is stressing you out as of late?

I got laid off back in late April. Haven't found a job yet. My wife was told two weeks after I got laid off that she was going to lose her job, too. She got to finish the month though. She hasn't had any luck finding a new job either. Our second child was born this past September, and it...

    Nanowrimo

It's that time of the year again. Actually, from the time I am writing this, for those of us in Eastern Standard Time US, we are less then two hours away. Is anyone joining in this year? My brother-in-law has talked about doing it for a few years, but never took the plunge. He decided to...

    Building a Library.

I have just gotten books that sound interesting to me. Very little non-fiction. I would say that I am around 97-98% fiction. Not a lot of them are true classics, but some may be considered classics in ten-twenty years. I am not sure if there are any books that we could say "should be in...

    Walter Moers

Can anyone help with the question I posted earlier?

    Walter Moers

Was wondering if anyone could offer me some help. I have a copy of "The City of Dreaming Books" and was going to be reading it soon, but found out that it's part of a series. Obviously, even if the books are stand alone worthy, it is best to read them in order written because you get the most...

    Clive Barker

You can check out his Wikipedia page, or the various web sites with information. From what Wikipedia says, and from what I had heard, book 2 has been out a while. Book 3 was scheduled to be released this year. My brother-in-law mentioned that it was delayed and into re-writes because it was...

Where is your book in transit now?

I know how you feel abecedarian. I got a book on eBay quite a few years back. It took just short of two months to get from upstate New York to the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania. Of course it was sent Media Mail. Sometimes I think the USPS just doesn't care. I also was sent a book...

    Bookmooch.com

That's another plus for BookMooch. It's international. I didn't know that PBS was strictly the US and it's territories.

    Bookmooch.com

I was an active member there, and now dislike the site. It has gotten so much press and hype that so many people joined. Now there is a tremendous amount of members. At the start it was very easy to get the books that you want. Now it seems nearly impossible because there are so many people...

    searching for god

Maybe try "Calculating God" by Robert J. Sawyer. It's a sci-fi novel. Very good.

    New paperback book size?

OK, I got a chance to flip through one. It seems that there is more space between lines, therefore making it easy to read/follow (a guess on my part). Also, saw a few of these "bad boys" in a Borders Express earlier today, so it's just not grocery stores carrying them.

    New paperback book size?

I hate to say it, but I thought you people were a little off your rockers when I saw this thread pop up a couple of days ago. However, I too saw these at my local grocery store this afternoon. My 3 1/2 year old son was acting up so I didn't get a chance to actually pick up one of the books and...

    Robin Hobb

I got through the first two books of the Farseer Trilogy and really enjoyed it. I never read the third book, but that was just due to general need to read something different. I have read her Liveship Traders Trilogy and loved it! I would highly recommend that.

    Disagree with ending?

I would add Michael Ondaatje's "Divisadero" to the list. I just finished it and was terribly disappointed. His writing style and prose are wonderful. Loved what he was doing with the story, on all fronts, with all the characters. It ultimately felt unfinished though. I'm not one that needs...

any recommendations if I liked The Wheel of Time?

I believe this is the third time you have spoke as such about Mr. Martin. I think you need to keep the crass comments to yourself. It's one thing to be upset about it, but your complaints don't add anything to the discussion, and they are down right rude. Back to the subject ... I just...

    Recommendations for fantasy series

I would second that. A great series. Also to add, the Monarchies of God series by Paul Kearney. Five books in the series, yet the five total about 1600 pages. It has a great amount of military style action, along with great ruler v. religion political games. Great stuff!

Trying to find a fantastic fantasy book that isn't part of a series

I almost forgot about “Last Dragon” by J. M. McDermott.
