Suggestions: April 2006 Book of the Month

How about "The Known World" by Edward P. Jones.

Is Ethanol our ticket out of The Middle East?

And I am sorry to say that usually our choice is between two idiots that follow the typical mindset of the politicians before. As soon as they become members of "The Club", they start falling into the same traps as the ones before. Or if they truly want to make a difference, they run into...

Is Ethanol our ticket out of The Middle East?

No, I didn't read the article. (Sorry, I am crunched for time.) I would hope it is easy, but again I just don't see the politicians and oil companies making it easy for us to really make a big change.

Reading multiple books at a time

I have read two books at a time before. Can't really do anymore then that though. I also have to keep one of them light. I never thought I could do that, but found it was pretty easier then I thought.

Is Ethanol our ticket out of The Middle East?

Not only that, but think of the infrastructure that would need to be in place to start us switching to it and the cost. There would have to be many places were the average citizen could purchase the methanol. This would probably take refurbishing the typical gas station, or building new ones...

    Introduction.

Welcome. I have a friend who's nickname is Doozer as well, but it's because she liked the Doozers from the old TV show Fraggle Rock.

    Raising the Dead

Though they don't totally concentrate on raising the dead but "The Risen Empire" and "The Killing of Worlds" touch on the subject. These are by Scott Westerfeld and a duology. http://www.scottwesterfeld.com/books/succession.htm

What new stuff would you want from scifi/fantasy?

If you had just asked me, and not mentioned your idea, then I really wouldn't know what I seriously would like to see. The only thing that might come close is a novelization of Jon Anderson's concept album "Olias of Sunhillow". Not sure who would be best to write it. Would be part fantasy...

Where do you go to find out of print books?

Ebay would be the obvious answer. Of course the condition of the book can vary. Same with Half.Com, which is part of Ebay. I have found some pretty decent deals from Alibris.Com as well. Again, you might be dealing with books that are in bad condition, or in excellent condition and very...

    Assisted suicide ...

I don't like assisted suicide. I am not sure I could go through with it. And I know I would have a problem helping someone. But I do believe that the government should allow people the right to help. Who does it hurt? No one (if you subtract out the part that someone dies, but that doesn't...

    Book Buying Freeze

I have stopped buying books in the last few weeks, too. And some of it has to do with the fact that I have so many yet to read. The better reason is because of my son. Just can't go off spending money on books that I might get to read in the next few years if I have another mouth to feed...

do you keep track of the books you read?

I have. I used to have a spread sheet. Now I just post reviews on my blog. I don't think this is strange at all. What better way to keep organized. And surely you don't forget books that you have read, but I am sure along the lines someone would. Especially the amount you read.

What are you listening to Right now?

"The Battle of Epping Forest" by Genesis

    Tony Banks.

Ah yes. I understand that. I am another perfect example that the Theorem is incorrect. ;) I am just glad to hear that Tony "keyboards" Banks is still alive. I am a fan of the world of progressive rock banality. (I was just listening to "Selling England by the Pound" on my way in to work...

    Tony Banks.

I am confused by this. Didn't a British politician named Tony Banks die, and not the keyboardist of Genesis?

Michigander, 30 mi from ghetto Detroit

I grew up about two miles north of 8 Mile Rd. (the north city limit). And yes, some of the areas of downtown are really nice and well patrolled making it very safe. That, along with the suburbs, it is no different then most major US metropolitan areas.

Looking for intellectual errotic books written by women

If you don't mind e-books, there is Eve Vaughn. (http://www.evevaughn.com) I have only read one of her books. It is also the only erotica I have ever read. (She is a friend of mine and my wife.) She has gotten good reviews.

    Recently Purchased/Borrowed

Had some spending cash from Christmas, so of course I spent it on books. :D "The Trial" by Franz Kafka "Pope Joan" by Donna Woolfolk Cross "The Fastasy Writer's Assistant" by Jeffrey Ford "Hidden Camera" by Zoran Zivkovic "Lord Byron's Novel : The Evening Land" by John Crowley "The...

Anyone ever read a novel like this?

The only book I know like that was not in fact written to be that way. It was compiled later, and that being Hemingway's "The Nick Adams Stories". As far as I know there is some speculation that not all of the stories were supposed to be about Nick, but they fit the timeline when they put it...
