Good question. I would say that there are many things to be learnt from fiction and fantasy books: concepts, theories, ideas. They can all be communicated through fiction an fantasy, surely?

I think it would work better if you took out much of the dramatic stuff that Occlith listed. Try it and see how it reads then, if you don't like it, it doesn't matter. No harm in seeing though.
This is terribly sad. I have never read Pratchett, but I have been meaning to. I think this news will give me the nudge I need to start one of his books.
