Valkyrie: I don't have a lot of time, so I'm just going to say that I liked that. I enjoyed reading that extract, and liked the touches of humour. :)
One thing I noticed very near the beginning was repetition of description:
I'd change one of those to something else.
Nice work! :)
What, like the first four books?
Any thoughts?! STOP READING NOW, SFG!! Seriously, you are not going to get the whole effect from coming into the story at such a late stage - you're over halfway through the entire series, and believe me, you need to have read the first four books...
I have to say that I have never been a fan of the thread rating feature at all.
As Stewart says, people post their own stories in Writers' Showcase and award themselves five stars, and other people use the rating system as a kind of personal vendetta against those members they dislike...

Cujo
Bag of Bones
Dreamcatcher
The Dark Half

Gormenghast is readily available on the UK Amazon site for £6.39. You can also buy the trilogy (consisting of Titus Groan, Gormenghast and Titus Alone) for £9.90. Have you tried the US Amazon? If you have, maybe try the usual suspects, such as eBay and second-hand book sellers.
I thought that his performance on the Jonathan Ross show was rather lacklustre - he didn't seem to be putting in much effort. The musicians seemed to be doing their best to drown out his voice :( (before the sarky comments arrive, no, that is not a good thing!) :D
Like in the Most Whackest Books thread, there is quite a lot of intolerance and rudeness to be found here too. Please keep your posts on-topic and argue your points in a civil manner. Thank you.
These aren't as long as some of the others listed, but Morrissey does like a fairly long song title. Don'tGoAway mentioned a few, but here are some more:
