I brought this topic up last night in the pub (had to explain the bad back) and most people said their cats quite liked peering at their own reflection. Quite a few people went home with the intention of putting their various pets on a mirror. You've started a craze!
Harry Potter had the perfect pairing of bording school book with magic. They're the kind of books I liked to read when I was a young un (and apparently still do). But they did kind of lose their appeal after the third book or so - whenever it was that they got to be incredibly long. Just no need.
Hah, to be fair, he (Stewart) has a point. But the inane drivel here is somewhat different to finding yourself confronted with someone who you feel forced to make small talk with. All depends on how you define small talk.
I hate hate hate 'making small talk' i.e. the pointless, nothing conversation - hairdressers and taxi drivers are the worst culprits. But I love finding out about other people, so often I find myself having quite personal conversations with relative strangers - not about myself I should add.
All the time. Especially over the last 8 months or so, when for whatever reason settling down to concentrate has been a bit of challenge. I start a book, then get bored, start another, feel bad about not reading the other book, go back to it etc. Or I start something that's not challenging as...

:D So tempted to start a thread about animal testing.
And here's a thread about image hosting/posting a pic - http://forums.thebookforum.com/showthread.php?t=2867
Well unfortunately for today's scientific experiment, I have no cat. As it is, the dog was plonked on the mirror several times, gave her reflection a cursory glance and skipped off. The experiment was repeated, results the same. Researcher now covered in dog hair, and think I've put my back...
Martin, I'm quietly contemplating taking this mirror down off the wall and trying to put the dog on it.
And Moto - sounds likely. I know people used to keep domestic pigs, they're meant to be as easy to train as dogs or something... If I could be bothered I'd Google.
I think a better question there Moto, would be should we allow IVF?
As it happens, I completely agree with Wolhay thus far, although we have always had dogs. (And I don't like cats.) Then again, keeping animals as pets has been going on for years, and is very much part of modern culture...
Me? Sweet? Now we all know that's not true.
Are we still waiting on these examples of you being mean? You'd have thought there'd be a nice little list somewhere.
Oh no, now he's resorted to quoting himself.
I just can't shake the feeling that this would never happen to Abulafia. I told you not to change your name
