    Let's meet up (online)

Yay. This will give me time to get on over to Radioshack, and 7:00 AM works just fine for me. :) If it's midnight in Sydney, I think that means it's 7:00 AM in California?

The book is great. How they managed to make such a dreadful movie out of it is completely beyond me.

    Greetings from Malaysia

When in his normal guise he is known as dire straits. He's a peach as well as being a banana. Which are your favorite genres?

I hope tomato hasn't gone away mad. Maybe he's just playing catch-up? :o Sorry, the devil made me say that; it can't have been original.

    Vladimir Nabokov: The Enchanter

Are you looking at The American Years? The word effete occurs. This had to be VN at his pictorial worst.

    Vladimir Nabokov: The Enchanter

It was quite cruel of Boyd to put that particular picture of VN on the cover of The American Years. If I were VN, I would haunt him forever for it.

    Reporting from Lebanon

The unseen tragedy of war -- the part that can't be shown in statistics -- is that for every human being who loses life or limb, thousands more like Samerron lose their faith and trust in humanity. Samerron is twenty one years old. Please don't stop telling us what you are...

Vladimir Nabokov: Look at the Harlequins!

Ooops! Peder, I see that, although I certainly read, and vastly enjoyed, your post (above), I neglected to reply to it in any way, except perhaps mentally. My bad, as VN would never, never, under any circumstances at all, have said. Well, here I am again -- reading happily (albeit slowly)...

Top ten things to do before...

What a great list, Gem! (So far I think I only want to do one :D of them myself. ) I'll get busy on my own list.

    Brokeback Mountain

Shade = I'm not hearing that. I'm hearing that a lot of people who are fiercely uncomfortable with the subject have gone to see the film and are ,at the very least, curious about other people's opinions. Baddie's boyfriend watched it and Baddie is willing to talk about it here. Baddie...

    Brokeback Mountain

Good point, Stewart, and I agree with you. If we look deeper, the pain was caused by lies and deception. Those things can occur in any relationship. Can we talk about that part of the story?

Of course you're right. I already know this from experience. :o I'm reading all the Carole Nelson Douglas Irene books in any which order, and it's really kind of all catty whompus that way, although I'm still enjoying them immensely. This was my rationale: Thaks for the heads-up! :)...
