I'm not saying it's confusing and I'm not trying to be argumentative either. It's just that it is hard to pin down language that everyone can agree upon.
How about Watership Down? It's a very engaging story and the reading level should be appropriate for you. It can be read as a simple story about rabbits or analyzed more deeply.
Or maybe The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins?
Merged.
(I'm not sure if I should post this here or start a new thread, so mods, please move if you see fit.)
My original, 4 years old Kobo Wifi finally went to the great e-heaven in the sky. One evening it was working, next morning - dead. I tried the usual re-set, internet search for solutions...
I'm pretty sure Dick wasn't trying just to be 'clever'. I believe he used the repeated passages to show the space/time-travel/schizophrenia and confusion experienced by the main character. I thought it was rather well done.
I've never read anything by Conroy, so not sure what you mean by engrossing and emotive. I really enjoyed A Prayer for Owen Meany. There is much dark humour in it, which I like, but is not for everybody.

What an old thread to have been resurrected!
An update for those interested: As of 2013, the Man Booker is open to all books written originally in English and published in the UK.

I don't know that I can pinpoint one particular story. I've always read her stories as part of a collection and, to me, they are best read that way. I tend to get immersed in the world she creates with her characters and just fall headlong from one story to the next.
So, I would say just...
I don't think you were looking at the main discussion threads. It may be that you need to join in order to see all of the forums. I can't remember now.
The way I see the forum is that the top portion of the forum is the welcome and introduction section, then below it are general interest book...
I've been a longtime fan of Alice Munro and extremely happy she received the Nobel. I think short stories are under-appreciated by many readers. So difficult to do well. Marvelous when they work.
I agree. If I think something is significant or interesting, I'll use small post-it/sticky notes. I had a lot if stickies in Gravity's Rainbow!

Hello hay! Long time no see ...
Keeping track of books helps me avoid re-buying books I've already read as well as satisfy my OCD tendencies :)

There are lots of groups for in-depth discussion. One I like is Constant Reader - intelligent, mature readers who go beyond, "it was great, loved it" comments. Different groups for different types of readers.
