What books have you read lately?

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.

The Year of the Flood, Margaret Atwood Fab follow-up on Oryx and Crake. Not really a sequel as portions of the two storylines overlap with some of the same characters at different times in their lives. Very interesting. I'm looking forward to a third and final book.

I knew I had a lot of books but now I know how many.

This thread reminded me of this YouTube video about a HUGE book collection. I can't remember how I came upon it - maybe here? Anyways, I think it's very cool.

    Steampunk

Perdido Street Station has been on my TBR list for years, so maybe I'll move it up my list a little faster. :)

Spook Country by William Gibson. Good, not great. I've enjoyed some of his other books more (Neuromancer, Pattern Recognition, Virtual Light).

    Novels About Social/Ethical Issues

Never Let Me Go is quite topical - cloning, organ transplants. It's a relatively easy read and the writing is sublime. The "war is bad" theme in books like Catch-22 is very broad, not very original and will be difficult to make stand out.

    Steampunk

Wow, it just goes to show you can learn something new everyday. I'd never heard of the term Steampunk before, so just ignored this thread until now. Makes sense (the term steampunk, that is). :)

    American Literature Recommendations

Are you asking about books for a course on American literature (i.e. books written by American authors) or a high school literature course in America?

    Ereaders and their fans

I agree. One of the only reasons I find ereaders attractive is the ease of portability when traveling. If I'm away for any length of time, I like to bring several books. With the greater weight restrictions on airlines, I find it harder and harder to find books I want to bring as opposed to...

    Book Journal

Pontalba, you should try a spreadsheet. It's great being able to make your own categories and sort whenever and whatever you like. I also have partial lists on LibraryThing and Goodreads, but it takes so long to enter everything!

    Book Journal

I use an Excel workbook with different sheets for what I've read, favourites in different genres, TBR, wishlists, recommendations (including from who and where), current reading, abandoned, etc. I can sort by author, title, date read - I love that. I used to use regular paper journals, but...

    Obason is definitely worth reading.

    Clichés In Fiction, Yuk!

This requires elaboration. Somewhere a dog embarked upon a barque, but finding nothing but a debarked tree, decided to disembark.
