I have been putting the red leather, 3 in 1 edition on my Christmas list for years now. I have fond memories of my 4th grade teacher reading to our class out of that book every day after lunch. She was an amazing teacher and introduced me to Tolkien. She got all the voices right too; a very...
I would recommed the A Song of Ice and Fire books along with Oberon. They are truly amazing. You won't be able to put the book down and when you finish it, you'll be running to get the next book. These books have spoiled me. Now I can't read any other fantasy without comparing it to GRRM.
I adore these books. I read them awhile ago so I can't really remember the details but they were beautiful and had fantasnic new ideas that were nowhere else in the fantasy genre. I recently got my mother to read the 1st one and she loves it as much as I do. Time for me to reread these books me...
I'm ashamed to say I have not read very much historical fiction, being stuck on fantasy. When I was 14 I picked up The Other Boleyn Girl because I was in the mood for a thick book set in that time period. It was amazing to say the least and totally drew me in from the first page. I recently...
Hi Sarah. I'm new as well. Welcome to the best book site on the 'net. I'm trying to learn to play flute but it's difficult to get a sound out of the darn thing let alone play it :o
In summer I usually do lighter reading so this month I focused on teen fantasy because they're just fun without being as heavy as a lot of the adult fantasy. I'm drawn to any type of fantasy though. It has always been my favorite book genre.

I named my first real pet (had like 16 beta fish) Calvin after Calvin and Hobbes. But then I found out that Calvin was a girl. Then....Calvin died :( RIP Calvin. When I used to work at the toy story we were naming all the plants and putting names on their jars. I named one Frodo and I think...
Well, I'm a student also so I don't really have a career but I have a part time job entering books onto the internet at this bookstore near my house. I enjoy it yes. Anything with books makes me happy. But sitting in a dark basement entering thousands of books onto a laptop does get a little...
Thanks for the tips SFG. Teaching seems like it would be a job that I could really relate to. I could give my enthusiasm for a subject to others and it seems like that would be well worth my time.
I would love to go into a career where I can work with books. I'm a junior in high school and right now I'm thinking that I would like to be a librarian. Either that or a teacher, probably in either the english or history field. There's so many choices. I'm very confused about what I want to do...
Yep. It's much better than the last job I had. At a toy store. Listening to little children scream all day and giftwrapping the oddest shaped things. I'm glad to be done with that.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
Hey. I just discovered that there was an introduction board so I am formally intorducing myself. This site is great. It's the best book site that I've come across. The people here are nice and very friendly. If it wasn't for work, I'd probably spend all my time on here. Oh well, I work at a used...
Rhapsody--The prologue was great but after that it all went downhill.
Sophie's World--Just too much like a textbook...
Interview with the Vampire-- Go out, drink blood, sulk, plan to kill the other vampire. The cycle could only repeat so much before I got very bored very quickly.

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman
The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
Ahh.....just remembering those scense is making me sad....
With me, it's kinda strange. When I'm in a bookstore and see a book that might look good, I buy it, but then it sits on my shelf for over a year before I read it. I may go all over town looking for this book, but once I have it, it just sits there. The thrill of the hunt I guess.....

Not to change the subject, but does anyone know why Julie of the Wolves was banned? I loved that book as a kid and still hold it in high regard. I don't recall anything in that book that would make it suitable for being banned....
::waves:: Nice to meet you all. I just discoverd this...
