    Hello Forum

You can't go wrong with Ender's Game and the books that follow. Orson Scott Card is the author. I introduced my son to scifi with those. If you're looking to find a good book, you've come to the right place. Good luck and welcome.

Patricia Cornwell: Portrait Of A Killer

I haven't read it, but I may. I have seen it advertised and thought it sounded interesting. I don't read much non-fiction. I think the last non-fiction I read (outside of college classroom requirements) was Helter Scelter (spelling?). It was about the Charles Manson murders. Creepy.

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord Of The Rings

Here, here! funes, that makes sense to me. It is sad, however. Of course, the loss of innocence and the end of childhood IS sad. I think Tolkien was concerned with the speed at which technology was taking hold. The world was becoming very "modern" or very fast. Perhaps he would have...

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord Of The Rings

That sounds right to me, but still . . . how can the hobbits go? Why can't Arwen and Aragorn?

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord Of The Rings

Curious. This may take a bit of research.

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord Of The Rings

Sam is not allowed to go when Frodo leaves. He can't go until he's old and, I believe, is about to die. For that matter, if it's a reward for saving the world, why can't he go when Frodo does? Surely he's earned it. What has me puzzled, if it is a representation of death, is why Elrod...

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord Of The Rings

I have yet to read Silmarillion. I'll have to get a copy soon. I just spent the weekend viewing all of The Lord of The Rings extended version DVD. Wow! I didn't think I'd get into all of the back story behind the film, but I was sucked into it. I'm ready for more. Silmarillion, here I come.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

We LIVE for food here. That and festivals. From January till the beginning of summer there's a party somewhere. Sugar Bowl, Mardi Gras, JazzFest, French Quarter Fest, Gumbo Fest, Crawfish Fest, etc. Once the summer hits it's too hot. If you decide to come down, let me know and I'll give you...

    Hamlet

Same here, lies. The only reason I saw the movie was that the cinematography in the trailer was so beautiful. Once I saw it, it really changed my opinion of the play. It's long, but that's because it doesn't omit much from the original. I'd say give it a shot. Let me know what you think.

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord Of The Rings

I would have liked to see Tom in the movie, but think, since he didn't do anything to move the story along he was omitted. I know they had though decisions to make...what to leave in...what to leave out. As it is, the movie is too lengthy for some. Not for me, though. I'm ready to see the...

    Pride and Prejudice

Ah, my favorite book. I did see the BBC/A&E version. I thought it was great. I also like Colin Firth. He plays a great Darcy. Funny you should mention Bridget Jones' Diary. I just watched it last weekend. I wondered about the character's name being Darcy and the similarities between the...

What you can do with a book besides reading it

I'll have to remember that one. I've been looking for some way of hiding my laundry room. I have to pass through it to get to my bedroom. The pile of dirty clothes is constant reminder that I should be washing instead of reading. You know, I've been wondering about the best way to protect...

    Songs Inspired By Literature

I've been drawing a blank on this one. But thanks to Letterhead, I feel much better...CATS...seen it...heard it! whew. BTW, Letterhead, feel free to be overenthusiastic. It's..."enthusiastically" allowed. :p

    Spoilers question

I think that would be a great idea. I had the same concern. I want to ask a question, but the entire post would be a spoiler, as would be any response.
