Suggestions for September's Book of the Month

Same here! But since I was the one who suggested The Shipping News my vote doesn't count. I admit I didn't read Coma this month, but I read it when it first came out. I tried to motivate myself to read it again, but alas to no avail. Sorry guys. I'll try to do better this time around. :p

    Horror books to Horror Movies.

I think the movie Alien worked because of the sense of doom that was created. Tight shots created the sensation of claustrophobia on the ship as well as the inability for the audience to see what was just out of view. You were constantly expecting something to jump out from out of the frame...

Reading more than one book at the same time

I usually read one book at a time, very quickly I might add. I go through a book every three or four days. If the book I am reading is not keeping my attention I may pick up another one. If I do this, more often than not, I will leave off the 1st book and read the 2nd one 'til I'm done.

Suggestions for September's Book of the Month

I think we have more response for September than we had for August. Maybe we'll have better luck. August has been a busy month. I, for one, would like to try again. That's my two cents worth.

    Stephen King: It

You're probably on track there. I doubt that blatantly obscene language was in use by kids that age at that time (1960s?) At least I don't remember anyone cursing when I was a schoolgirl. I would have been shocking if they did. That's not the case today. I know for a fact that obscene...

    Stephen King: It

" Ian, can you elaborate? It's been a long time (at least 12 years) since I read IT. I don't remember King's mistake with the phone call you mentioned. It would bother me as well.

    Horror books to Horror Movies.

I think it has more to do with the de-sensitivity we now have toward such things. I remember being totally freaked out for months after watching "The Omen" in the theater. I introduced the movie years later to my oldest son. I was looking forward to his reaction to the film. (He was in his...

    Do you read non-fiction?

The criticism on 'Tis is why I haven't read it. I'm afraid would be disappointed. Haven't read A Monk Swimming. I'd like to hear if anyone has read it.

    Do you read non-fiction?

Unfortunately, I don't read much nonfiction. I did, however read Angela's Ashes. Great stuff there. Has anyone read the follow-up book - 'Tis?

do you keep a book list?

I have good intentions. I really want to keep a books read list and a books to read list, but can't seem to keep them updated. Does anyone know of any free shareware list/cataloging programs?

    What are you reading mid-July/02?

Lies, The Ender's Series is wonderful! If you haven't read them, and are interested in Card, you must! Read them in this order: Ender's Game Speaker for the Dead Xenocide Children of the Mind

    What are you reading mid-July/02?

I just love Orson Scott Card. I got my 12 year old to read Ender's Game. I forgot how gory it is in spots. He stuck with it, though. I thought if he could read a 700+ page Harry Potter book, he was ready. I'm just finished reading Elizabeth Haydon's Prophecy. I'm waiting to see what...

    Favourite Reading Places

I read in the car on the way home from work, waiting for the ferry to cross the Mighty Mississippi. I love to read in bed, but it tends to keep me up 'til all hours instead of putting me to sleep. But my favorite place to read is (don't laugh, all you manly men) in the bathtub surrounded by...

    August BOM . . . vote people!!!

Come on everyone!!! We now have 94 members and only 6 votes for August Book of the Month. Time is running out. Darren went to the trouble of posting a poll and we're not doing our part. If only 6 people voted, are only 6 people going to participate? I surely hope not. Let's get...
