I finished this one a short while ago. Here's my little blurb about it (posted on my blog):
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a series of letters written to an unknown person, from Charlie, a 16 year old sensitive, introspective ‘wallflower’. It covers all the usual teenage angst, but so...
I read a user review on The Book of Dave, and thought it sounded very interesting. I haven't read any of Will Self, but I hope to get around to picking up that one.
I bought The Other Boleyn Girl a while ago, but have yet to read it. I'm very interested in historical fiction, but I'm also wondering how accurate the events are. Given that it's fiction, a lot of it is probably inaccurate, or the authors 'fantasy', but are the core of her books - the setting...
Hmmm, The Demon by Hubert Selby Jnr, is a very dark and depressing (and quite frightening) read. I also found After You'd Gone and The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox (both by Maggie O'Farrell) quite depressing. I'm sure there's loads more, but those are the main ones that come to mind.
I love the smell of new books, but loathe the smell of used ones. To me, they smell musty, dusty and damp.
With new books, I love to hold my face right up to the book, and flip the pages and inhale. :o
I try to vary my reading choices, as I too get burned out with too much of the same. I rarely read the same author or the same genre back to back. I like to break things up by reading some heavy-ish drama, then a fast-paced thriller. Variety is good. :)
I have plenty; way too many to list. Looking at my LibraryThing account, there are 186 of them, most of them purchased more than 5 years ago. On the plus side, I've stopped buying so many books, and am trying to stop borrowing more, so I can make a dent in all these books. :D
On weeknights, not much. Half an hour if I'm lucky. However, if it's a very good book, then I find it easy to read for a long time. Weekends are a lot better for me though. :)
My reading time is interrupted constantly, mainly by work. I generally don't pick up a book unless I know that I will have a good chunk of time to read it. I find it very difficult to remember what I have read, unless I get at least a solid 30 minute uninterrupted reading time. :)
I don't like books with 'movie covers' either. I prefer the original covers, as it leaves the characters more to the imagination. Also, it looks better. :D
Has anyone read this amazing book? I just finished it, and was blown away by it. :D
Below, is my review.
Right from the introduction of the book, we know we are facing a mystery. In the initial pages, we learn that the protagonist’s teacher, Hannah, has been found dead, “hanging by a...
Wtf? That's hilarious!
Regarding fast-food, I don't have a problem with it. I love the convenience of it, when sometimes I don't feel like cooking after I've been working all bloomin' day.
I have to agree with the Reality TV - that does my head in.
