what's your most exciteble read ?

Call me a literature nerd, but The Scarlet Letter had me on the edge of my seat. The portrayal of guilt was so intense.

Top qualities of a book store

    1. Extremely low prices. 2. Steady influx of new stock. 3. Staff that doesn't recognize the value of some books.

Yes!! (Notice what book I'm reading.)

    Movie of the Earth

It struck me as a little sad when the Earth was moving away. I ran it backwards so that the Earth got closer and bigger; that was more cheerful. By the way, the version with the timer shows that it covers about 24 hours; so all that movement is really from the Earth going around once.

    What do you sleep in....

I really hate wearing anything when I try to sleep, even when I lived in a place that got down to 40 indoors at night (4 for you in the rest of the world). If it's really cold, I will have a flannel nightshirt under the conforters with me, so it will be warm when I put it on for getting out of bed.

shoes or bare feet in your house?

One foot sticking out from the covers feels refreshing, though both sticking out feels too exposed.

The Nine Billion Names of God

When I finish writing a novel, I'm so sad that my characters won't be in my life anymore, I immediately launch into a sequel. Please don't finish any story you start writing. You have me worried now.

shoes or bare feet in your house?

Don't wear clothes much in the apartment, so no shoes either. In winter, sometimes wear fuzzy socks along with sweats.

    Tell us about "your" bookstore.

The blue building with the yellow awnings is Booksandcoffee in Dewey Beach, Delaware, which is our annual beach destination. Even at the beach, we need to spend some time surrounded by books, and this is the place.

    Julia Cameron

Yes, the spiritual side of this book put me off too. If You Want to Write, by Brenda Ueland, is a classic inspirational book for amateur writers, and not quite as spiritual.

John Steinbeck: The Grapes Of Wrath

This is one of my top ten favorite books. Because Steinbeck lived and worked with the Dust Bowl migrants, his book is a historical document as well as one of the great American novels; so I think it will be suited for your interests.

    Childhood's End Allusions

If you are supposed to compare the allusions in Childhood's End to the allusions in Snow in August, then try this: List for yourself the allusions in the second book, and see if they resonate in the first book too. It would be a jumping off point for your search in the first book.

Thank you, Irene. Someone had to say it.
